Galaxy S3 Static noise!

Just got a Samsung Galaxy S3 today and am very pleased until I plugged in my good quality earphones and listened to music on Pandora. As I listen, I can hear static in the background.. Even when the music is paused and I'm browsing the Internet with my earphones on, I can also hear static at times. It's really irritating! Is there a way to fix this? Please help. Thanks.

Also, it's not my earphones. I plugged them into my iPhone 3GS and it sounds perfect. So it's not my earphones.

the headphone jack is REALLY tight on the s3.. daft question but were they DEFINATELY plugged right in?
+do the stock earbuds do same?
