Galaxy S4 connected to wi-fi but no internet

I had this same problem with my home wifi network. I had connection to local network, push notifications were ok (fb messenger), but internet was down. I founded out that in wifi network setup I had proxy server set (WTF!), proxy server address was local loop address.

I have simply refused a PROXY setup. so now it is okay.

Hi all,

After struggling with this for 2 days i finally sorted the connection issue. I got my solution from this forum with a little tweek which hopefully will help others.
I first connected to my desired wifi network via dhcp (this is the default settings to anyone who doesnt know). I allowed the phone to connect then changed it to static IP by clicking on the saved wifi link and choosing advance settings. The fields should atuomatically fill with the IP, DNS and default gateway etc.

I left these settings as they were accept for the DNS primary and secondary address. Here i changed both to 8.8.8.8 for primary and 8.8.4.4 for secondary.
If you Google these addresses you'll find they are Googles own DNS servers and can be used in place of the default DNS entries. Hit save and lauch your browser, if you have any luck like i did you'll connect straight away.

This work around leaves me to believe that the problem isnt with the router or firmare but the DNS servers in my company.

Hope this helps. GOOD LUCK!

How do you change the DNS I cant find it anywhere?

Hey
It happened to me to, and for me, the problem was that i Had the same network configured twice on my device, and i was able to see only one of them.
my solution: I erased all the wifi network with the same name, and then configured it again.
hope it helps anyone...

hi
i have exactly the same problem by galaxy grand2...but no one can solve it :(
i use viber some times but its not connected always!!! and i can nor surf on the net

steven garcia thank u!!! been messing with this for hours to get my phone to get internet and finally found an answer that worked!!

sorry for the extremely late reply. the options to change all network settings are found under advance settings. that option should be present once you connected to your chosen wifi network.

This did not work for me. The settings will not allow me to change and save the primary DNS as 8.8.8.8. I changed the setting to static, but that had no effect. I also checked for parental controls on my router, which are disabled.
This problem popped up for me just in the last couple of weeks. My phone (S4) shows a "very strong" wifi connection, but internet is not working at all. Meanwhile, my laptop uses the same router and internet connection on the laptop is working fine. Still searching for help!!

I'm having the same issue. I swear it was the latest system update. Samsung Galaxy S4 on Verizon. Android version 5.0.1. Baseband 1545VRUGOF1

Wifi connects fine at home and work. I get a valid IP address. No network traffic though. I can use the terminal emulator app to ping 8.8.8.8. No response. I can't even ping the local gateway IP. This is not a DNS issue as DNS is not involved in IP based pings. I've already tried to forget and reconnect networks. I also factory defaulted the phone a couple weeks ago. No change.

Any ideas? I don't want to RMA the phone for a new one. Just need to get by until the S7 is out.

I'm in the same boat. I used to be able to connect to wifi at work no problem. I would connect, it would get IP then open a browser to authenticate. Now it connects automatically and never opens an authentication page. If I open a browser myself it gives me some bs "web page is not available" with an error code of ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE Mine just started a few days ago so Idk if thats because of the last update or not but even trying to static ip with using Googles and the DNS off of someone else's, non android, phone i still cant connect. Anything you find would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rooted Using Odin and CWM
-Factory reset
-Changed the dns's(8888,8844)
-Setup a static IP for the phone
-Turned off wireless N, just G (although, I think the tuning off the N was the fix along). It Works!

For me the WiFi issue started immediately following 5.0.1 update, I easily lost 8 hours time trying to fugue this out in the last 5 weeks. Now, my FreedomPop cell phone services work perfectly. If the fix worked for you, send me your email address. Referring a friend earns me a little extra data ;-)
