Galaxy S4 Google Edition - no service?

Just started today, I have no service on my galexy s4, i noticed it did this earlier but went back to normal later, everything else works. Wifi is fine, I tried to access my device status but I cant even open that and all I get is com.android.phone has stopped working....ive made sure the sim card was seated, pulled battery and let it sit for a few min, it then wouldent turn on until I plugged charger into it and now it can restart without an issue

im on version 4.2.2

baseband is unknown...idk if that means anything

my carrier is US cellular

If anymore info is needed please let me know, and any help givin is appreciated

Few things come to mind..

Is the device rooted and running a custom ROM?

You mentioned checking the SIM CARD, is it possible the SIM CARD is defective?
