Galaxy S4: Is a glass screen protector really worth it?

Re: Is a glass screen protector really worth it?

I was carrying mine naked cause I wasn't worried about scratches but when I saw the video of the one called IMPACT SHIELD (impactology.com), I went to TMobile and bought it. A bit expensive but is worth it just in case I ever drop it. The guy at the store put in on in no time and there was only one bubble that he took care of it with the tool that comes with the protector. Instead of me telling you how good or bad it is, go to the site and decide for yourself.

Re: Is a glass screen protector really worth it?

IMO, it's overhyped.. a cheapo screen protector will do. They come in packs of 3 just install a new one every 6 months.

Re: Is a glass screen protector really worth it?

I'm not sure what the big advantage of is really is. For $35 you can get around 9 of the normal, plastic ones and I've never had them scratch up so fast that I need to replace them anywhere near that many times. The 3 I get for $10 have always lasted me through the life of the phone and I usually have one left.

I use to think that but trust me not a single finger print shows the sensitivity is perfect you have no cloudiness or anything it's the clearest thing ever, instalation is so easy and no bubbles, it's harder than gorilla glass 3 I could go on with more but trust me there worth every penny

Re: Is a glass screen protector really worth it?

I just ordered the Spigen glass.t nano. It's my first tempered glass protector and yes it's pricey, but I thought I'd give it a shot. I'll update once I've installed it.

Trust me you'll love it I put one on my s4 and my one and I can't believe how much I love them, so clear and the feel is great, no sensitivity lost and so easy to install they just lay down like magic no bubbles at all, I'll never have a phone or tablet again without one, people spend a couple hundred on a phone then put a cheap plastic protector on that does not look or feel anything near the spigen, you'll agree I'm sure

Re: Is a glass screen protector really worth it?

My single concern getting a glass screen protector is installation. That's a chunk if change to mess up. And I install screen protectors every day for customers in the service dept of an electronics retailer. I do iPads and tablets and phones and very well. But when I eventually get one of the spigen protectors for my phone, I will be stressing over getting it perfect.

It's so easy nothing like regular ones, you just line it up and set it down it does the rest itself like magic and not a single bubble plus they have a replacement program of you mess up but trust me I such at installing screen protectors and both my spigen are perfect without one bubble

Re: Is a glass screen protector really worth it?

I wanted to buy one, but the Spigen website states:

Q. Is there anything I need to be aware of using the GLAS.tR for my HTC One?
A. Yes, the GLAS.t slim and the GLAS.tR Slim will only function with Software version 1.29.709.12 or later.

I only have version 1.26.502.12. How do I get the latest version? I check for updates and I have none available.

I'm definitely getting one. Whenever my moshi ivisor XT scratches up. I have to make sure it will work with my Belkin surround case. I'm sure the thinnest one will be ok. This ivisor XT is already a bit thick and the home button is slightly recessed.

Re: Is a glass screen protector really worth it?

I have used a ton of different screen protecters and always ended back to the Zagg. I had been looking at the Spigen Glasstr for my S4 for a while now but really didn't want to drop $35 on a screen protecter that i couldn't reuse or was garbage if i didn't get it on right. I finally broke down and bought one and ill probably never go back, the feel of natural glass is the best. It went on really easy and there are NO sensitivity issues at all, the cover does cover the front facing camera but you cannot tell in pics and the home button is recessed a little but you'll get used to it "if" you don't use one of the button covers they send you to adjust for it. (I just ordered the Aluminum ones.) The screen protecter resists finger prints and smudges better than a normal one especially if you carry the phone in your pocket. When it comes to cases, you'll have to try the case with the glass protecter before buying the case because it will not accommodate some cases, i only use two different cases and it works perfectly with both, Otterbox Defender with the built in protecter taken out and a BodyGlove Tactic case.

Its really up to you on what you want, if the phone gets damaged and has to be replaced; you lost the screen protecter, if you use one and drop your phone and the protecter breaks, you probably just saved your screen.... if your careful with your phones like i am, you'll NEVER buy another screen protecter as long as you have that phone. Re: Is a glass screen protector really worth it?

Yes it is. I would never use a screen protector if it wasn't for the glass.tr

UPDATE: I just installed the Spigen Glas.t Nano Slim w/ only a 0.15mm thickness and oh my I am in love! You seriously can barely tell it is on there. It is beautiful, resists fingerprints, and my finger glides over it so smoothly. The install was fairly easy. However I had to reinstall several times b/c I am a ridiculous perfectionist by nature. But after 8 attempts, I was finally happy with the placement and not an air bubble in sight. I barely notice any additional weight from the tempered glass and it is so thin it appears just as a regular screen protector would. I would recommend this tempered glass screen protector hands down. And while it does retail for $34.99, I say it is worth every penny. Paired with my Spigen Ultra Thin Air Transparent Case, my phone does appear to be truly naked!

Re: Is a glass screen protector really worth it?

There is absolutely no reason to pay $35 for a tempered protector unless you want to. All of the following produce them and some offer equal or better quality and customer service for $10 less or so plus an aluminum home button for a buck extra or free. Do your research!

Spigen
iLoome
iMuse
BodyGuardz

I actually had the Spigen Ultra Clear protector prior to this one, and while yes it was less expensive and did a great job for what it is, it really doesn't compare to the Nano tempered glass protector. I agree though, there is no need to spend $35 on a screen protector unless you want to and you have the cash. And I did do my research btw. I think it's really just preference.

Hopefully you didn't take my post as a jab. It was meant for those who summarily dismiss this wunnerful product because they think the price of admission is $35 + buttons + shipping because that is the only price that has been tossed around in this thread. IMO, Spigen has great products with terrible after-sale customer service. If you are going to do Spigen, do it through Amazon. Mime, iloome and a couple of the others are definitely giant killers.

When I decided on my tempered glass protector, I was looking for the thinnest with a solid 9H rating, not 8-9H. If Spigen's .15 had been out at that time, it would be on my phone today via Amazon, of course. So price wasn't a factor in my decision but it is for many and does not have to be a barrier to entry.

Re: Is a glass screen protector really worth it?

Actually we should be thanking him because I just looked at mimis ghost glass and it was equally good for 10 less and probably better after service again though spigen are good but I think he showed me there is just as good of options

Re: Is a glass screen protector really worth it?

I'm rocking my Spigen and not having any sensitivity issues. It is an excellent screen protector.

I found out that my theory was correct, dropped my phone today at work pretty hard on the concrete face down in a Defender series case and when i picked it up the screen was shattered. At first it looked like the screen its self was broke but when i peeled the protector off the screen was in perfect condition.

Re: Is a glass screen protector really worth it?

IMO it is, said it many times I don't care if it's Gorilla Glass 2 or 3. IT WILL GET SCRATCHED!

The Nillkin Screen Protector that comes with the Case is amazing, it cost me less than $10 for BOTH. I used to spend $20, $30 on it and thought WTF am I doing, there's no reason to spend more than $10 on it, I'm not being cheap either, I did try those $2 on eBay and lasted a week.

Had mine for three days... Put it in the cup holder in my car, reached across with my key clip and I swear to God I didn't even think the keys touched it.. Tiny little "knicks" all over the damn thing. My camera was acting funny so I returned it and immediately had a Zagg installed.

I am using an AT&T HTC One with 1.26.502.12, I too have no more updates available. Does anyone have any insight on whether or not the GLAS.tR Slim would still work. I have read elsewhere that the 1.26.502.12 update improved the capacitive buttons on the front. This leads me to think the screen protector might work.
