I actually gave this phone a go. Was my FIRST ever time using Android and I hated it. I was coming from an iPhone 5 so the quality as you could expect from a cheap device, bad. Sure, it felt choppy and such but the actual hardware itself was cheap. Camera, ehh, I'd rather use my toaster. Touchscreen didn't really feel responsive? okay, it worked, but once again, my toaster did it better. It's definitely a good phone and is something I'd recommend to someone on a budget but really, if you can afford the big budget phones, get one.
Seeing as you've mentioned only Android specific devices I won't mention Nokia, Apple, etc! I'm a GS4 user. I wish I got around to actually testing the HTC, I really do. If you can, test both. I was lucky enough to borrow a nexus for a week. I'd have been gutted if I actually paid money for it! I shot back to an iPhone after the week with a smile on my face, haha! I will say now that the GS4 is an amazing phone, but the HTC one maybe better! It's down to each person, though. Some people will never like Android, and love their windows phone, others the iPhone. Get your hands on both devices and give them a go! You won't regret either choice, they're both fabulous phones, but you'll always prefer one more to the other.
