Galaxy S5 Battery Drain

It is. IDK what happened I'm at work all I used this more was Textra. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the android system.

Pro S5

After a little trial and error, I solved my S5 battery drain issue by turning OFF auto update of apps. Google Play Services usage went from my top app usage as show under BATTERY to number 5. LOCATION services were already OFF. A little experimentation goes a long way.:D

My S5 went from needing charging every 1 and a half days to not even lasting six hours, after the update. I could literally just watch the battery % go down before my eyes! Yesterday, It ran out mid afternoon, I charged it to 100% at 6pm and by 10pm it was down to 10% again! However I dug around online a bit and discovered the new update installs an app called "samsung link platform" which was draining my battery by 44%. I went into applications manager and forced quit, disabled it, and finally deleted it permanently (as it would just not go away!) turned off phone, took battery out, and now my phone is cured! Back to its old self :) I've had it on all day (12 hours so far) and still on 63% and that's with fairly heavy use. Happy with my phone again!

Which new update are you referring to? What carrier are you using?

Come on people, you've spent big money for this device, spend a bit more on an additional battery and charger and use your device the way it was intended to be used. I'm not against conserving but this device provides so much .... use it and enjoy. Have a drink.

I'm on EE network and my S5 just let me know there was a firmware update and kept asking to install it, so I did. I'm not too techy, so just had to look it up and it says I am now on android version 4.4.2

My phone was using about 1.8% / hour of battery when I put it into charger last night.
This morning it is draining quickly. I did nothing manually on the phone.
Unsure of what changed. I am trying to turn off and stop apps. to help the drain.
It appears that others are experiencing the same phenomenon. I'm on verizon.

whats wrong with that you got a day out of it and i only get this with very little use i have 56% now

This has been what my S5 has been using up until a couple of days ago . Now it's been using about 4.8 to 5 % per hour and I'm not even really using the phone much . Not sure whats going on . Battery app is saying it's the OS that is using the battery . So I went in and turned a few things off and cleared the cache on a few others . now to see what happens .

Just make sure that you have all of the social apps turned off,

are you storing pictures in the 'the cloud' somewhere? that eats up a lot of battery

I take care of those problems with a hammer: I turn the internet OFF when the phone goes to sleep.
See my signature.

MacroDroid monitors the screen status. If the screen is locked, so is the internet. No data transfer possible.

If the screen is unlocked, then the internet is turned on again, takes all of 1 second, 2 seconds at worst.

I usually get 3 days per charge unless I do a LOT of stuff, then I only get 1 or 2 days....
this weekend, I have been using the phone a lot to help folks out in the forums, it was down to 51% last night, and at 20% the low battery warning went off. I reconfigured that to 10% and back to work.

Went to bed and dropped it on the wireless charging pad and it still has 97% as of 3:30 PM

The phone is now 4 years old. battery usage is not gonna be the same anymore. And I'm just talking about an hour use only, not 15+ which i never do.

Came direct from apple site support.apple.com/kb/sp587

SO I doubt this would occur in the wild.

Hi to all of you....!!! :-!
After all the test i did...i found the problem for this issue!!! and finally is working...
if you wanna try my sugestion you should;

To resume the problem in a few words ...the upgrade does duplicate the memory consumation... means doesn't erase some services, but duplicate, that did work on KitKat.... after detecting this problem ...the only solution is simple.

- Backup all your data from your phone.
- The next step is shutdown the phone.
- Then you should start your phone in recovery mode.
- On the menu choose wipe cache
- After choose wipe factory reset
- And after this choose restart
finally ...enjoy your phone and the plain battery.

After all this my test was the next morning....
-- A full day from 8H00 to 21H25...some usage and still have 65% of battery....impressive
--Before at 12H00 i add already drain 50%...amazing

enjoy...if you need some help...just reply

Before 5.0 my s5 a had the best battery life of any smart phone I've had. Could easily get two days out of it with a lot of use. Now I struggle to get through a day.

Hi,
I have battery draining problem with my Galaxy S5.
It is not regular problem, because turning off GPS, SYNC, Brightness, Smart Stay doesnt help much. The same for black and whiting screen or haveing black wallpaper.

I usually manage it to stay for 12hours, 4 screen on time, GPS on, Sync on, B. - auto, Smart stay on, Data on (3G).
That isnt bad at all. Thing is, that if I turn off everything, have 20% brightness, it doesnt change anything.

1% last for 3 minutes, my regular CPU temperature is 40°C, dischare 450mA (application Ampere) I have Android 5.0 (but happened the same with 4.4)

It drains the same every time. Basically every look at the phone = 1%.
For example-this night - 15% down.

Factory reset doesnt help, samsung service says its ok.

Thank everyone for helping!!!!
