galaxy s5 camera lens cracked

Did not drop my phone. Otterbox case from day one. Found my camera lens cracked about a week later. Paid $175 deductible to insurance. Got a replacement. Called samsung after I read others having same problem. The tech said, this is the first time he heard of it. I'm going to email them later. My first phone was made in korea. My new phone is made in china. Don't know if this matters. I'll report back if this one cracks as well. I had an s3 for years. Had no problems with that one.

Using case is not the solution, I am using case but yesterday night i got the same problem. Case is not a 100 percent protector.

And no one has the parts to fix it for about another month. I am not about to pay the insurance cost to get it fixed either.

A million people can call, yet they will still say it's an unknown issue

That is stock Script Reader verbiage, and it is on every carrier customer service. They all claim they never heard of that problem which is total BS.

My phone is in a Speck CandyShell Grip case and no camera issues.

Still worth buying even though this seems to be a real issue. Samsung refuses to fess up. I don't want to use insurance just because of there screw up.

My favorite thing about this thread is all of the camera lenses that are magically cracking without ever being touched, dropped, mishandled or removed from their cases. Why I had a similar thing happen just the other day. I was sitting in the kitchen minding my own business and not touching anything when my car suddenly blew up! And then, moments later, my cat spontaneously combusted. I didn't even pet her or anything! It's a conspiracy!

has anyone ever thought that perhaps they could have be damaged in transit to the store and they didn't notice as you didn't until you went to take a picture. i live in canada and when i got mine a few days ago there is little plastic screen protector over the lens except for the middle. there is nothing around on mine to say the there is anything that will break. and i have a dropped mine from about knee hight with a inicpio dual layer case on it and nothing happened i just checked mine because i saw this thread. a few of you sound like you might have broken on accident, with keys and stuff in your pocket and no case it can get broken and ladies lets not pretend that we don't take a lot of stuff along with us in our purses! it is very annoying when this happens. and to the guy who posted the picture of his broken lens you clearly hit it on something that did not just happened out of no where! as you said you think hit it on a corner or something that would do it. (not trying to be mean) but anything can happen. but when getting a phone i always wait 30 min in the mall or store that i got it from and play with to make sure that it works right before leaving it. so always give the new phone that you get a good once over before you leave the store, in case something this happens and then you get a different one with out all this hassle. if anything looks out of place ask for a different one.

Probably not that big of a deal. People come to forums to complain about things like this. Out of the what millions of s5 sold we have a a few hundred maybe a thousand that have a lens that broke? And just because they say they didn't drop it, bump it against anything doesn't mean it didn't happen. I know I broke my old note's screen because it was in my pocket when I was working on my car and I pressed up against the car. Didn't notice till probably an hour later when I pulled it out of my pocket. Stuff happens

People only go on to forums to complain. And you have to think that those who are forum savvy post about it...

Im sure there are thousands out there who have had this happen, but don't go on forums to complain

I've read a lot of people with otterbox have this happening and with having cases on in general. Perhaps it's the way these cases transfer the stress to the camera lens body

So now there is a rule that no one can complain on forums?
Complaint or not, it is information that can be helpful to others.
Is there a 100 percent chance that this is not a real problem with the s5 or at least maybe some of the early production ones? If someone decided to wait a few months till the early s5s problems got worked out because they saw this thread, wouldn't that be a good thing? I'd sure be happy if someone saved me $175.
It's easy to read about someone else's problem and blame it on them or dismiss it but you might look at it differently if this happened to you.
Being a car guy, I'm wondering about forums and people who "complained" about faulty ignition switches. Or I seem to remember a different recall on cars that accelerated on their own. Could it be that people blamed the defect on driver error at first.

So where are you able to get it fixed... I called Samsung and they want to charge $160+ to fix it, mine broke with a case and I never dropped it. There is no type of recall on it regardless of multiple complaints.

Mine cracked without dropping it as well. I have it in a otterbox and have had the phone for less than a month. I called Samsung and they said there is nothing they can do that it is physical damage and that I would be charged $160+ to get it fixed or replace the phone. Anyone know of any place that will just replace the glass and not replace the whole phone?

Seems like people should avoid the otterbox case since a lot are reporting theirs broke in that case

I've seen talk of people using Otterbox Defender. I have mine in an Otterbox Symmetry and have had no problems. I even dropped it on a tile floor, it bounced and slid (doh!), and there wasn't a scratch on it or the case.

that ebay replacement lense probably wont work bc supposedly there is a lot of waterproof adhesives behind the original lense that you wont be able to just reapply to the new one

yeah looking for an update here so we know what to do when this $7 ebay piece comes in the mail
