Galaxy S5 - cannot sync facebook friends to contact list

I recently purchased a Galaxy S5 from at&t, and have been having trouble getting my contacts to link with my friends on facebook. Here are the steps I have followed:

1) Downloaded the Facebook App
2) Agree to all permissions it asks for
3) Open the settings for contacts
4) Press Accounts
5) Press Add Account -> Select Facebook
6) Select Sync Contacts

When I do this, it almost immediately changes from "syncing" to "synced" leading me to believe that it is not actually downloading any contact data. When I go back to my contacts, none of my Facebook friends have been added. I see no Facebook data even when I set "Contacts to display" to all, and display contacts without phone numbers.

My overall goal is to have my contacts displayed with their profile picture from Facebook.

Welcome to Android Central! Go to Settings>Accounts-Facebook. Is Contacts checked there?

I am having the same problem..I DID have these pictures in my contacts at one point but no longer?
