Someone finally got sick of it. Apple is being sued.

I do like Apple and their products, but it is really ridiculous how hard it is to switch devices outside of the Apple ecosystem. If I had it my way, I would switch freely between my Galaxy s5 and my iPhone 5s depending on which phone suited my needs/mood for the day/week/whatever. But because of how impossible it is to switch thanks to iMessage, I don't switch often. I'm using my iPhone 5s right now because my Galaxy s5 is on the charger (extended weekend vacation and both of my batteries need charged up for the week lol). But I can't use iMessage or FaceTime because I do not want to go through all of that hassle again of being able to use my Galaxy s5 when I switch back again.

Finally changed my number via Verizon's website...no tech support, no sales associate, no BS. A 3-week headache solved in about 5 minutes.

I wouldn't want to have to change my number. I read somewhere that after 45 days the issues resolves itself. I don't know if there is any truth to that but I did read it somewhere.

I'll check with some friends at work who havent been able to text me next week. Should be 45+ days then. Ridiculous. I want in on that lawsuit.

This is a pain because the galaxy user can't fix it,....instead every iPhone user has to
Have your iPhone friend
- go to settings
- iMessages
-depending on the iPhone version it is all different. Turn on or off a button that says SMS. My friends newer version said "send as SMS if iMessage is not available."
-magic!! I can get text from her! Did the same with another friends. One was an iPhone 4, one was a iPhone 5. Instant fix

i get texts but no attachments or anything that requires me to download as it just says downloading all the time and will always time out.

Wife and I had same issue, turned out to be her iPhone. Also, Apple also has a bug in iMessage.

I can not THANK YOU enough! I followed your instructions and woke up this morning to a WORKING new Samsung phone. I had already called ATT who could NOT help me Apple was NO help at all and I was ready to ditch my new phone No one could text me. I'm up and running!!! THANK YOU!!!!! Please if your having problems change your Apple ID password and send the TEXT it works!!!!!!

So I picked up my S5 Friday, upgraded from iPhone 4S. I traded in my iPhone for the phone, and reset my iPhone to factory settings before doing so. I love my new phone, but I can't get any texts from iPhone users.

You've received some very helpful hints so far, but one more important step that is required by your iphone friends. They must have "send as sms when imessage is not available" enabled in their imessage settings.

Having the same text issues with some of my IPhone friends as well. Turned off iMessage & FaceTime on my old phone and IPad but it's been 3 days and I'm still not getting their texts. If I call Apple to get my phone 'released', will it affect my IPad too? I still want to use it.

The iPad "may" be part of your problem. If you were / are using your phone number as one of the addresses you can be reached at in iMessages on the iPad, that may be holding you up with your new phone getting texts. Sign out of iMessages (not just turning it off) and then sign back in paying particular attention to the addresses where you can be reached by iMessage. You should only have your apple account email address listed and not your phone number. If that doesn't resolve it, you may need to call apple and have them remove your number from the iMessage database.

Thank you...so if I call that Apple 800 #, they should be able to 'fix' it so I can eliminate IMessage. And still use the IPad without interfering with text usage on the S5? Sorry, not that tech savvy and this is so frustrating...already visited Apple and Verizon a second time for photo & music retrieval issues so need to clarify the best I can...

Yes you can call Apple Support and request that they remove your number. See the attached bulletin from Apple:iOS: Deactivating iMessage
You can use your iPad for iMessages to and from iOS devices (iPhones and iPads) and Macs through your Apple ID, but not your telephone number now that you have change phones. It will still work under those circumstances. All texts through your phone will be separate from the ones on the iPad.

Got a different problem only just got HTC one with brand new number never owned an Apple device ever but still my friends with iPhones I don't get there texts

I had same problem and I called apple and had them deauthorize my iPhone. They did it in ten minutes and all is working on my S5 now

Reading this... I just followed all the steps Above, disabling my imessage, facetime & I texted 48369 to Apple, NOW, hopefully within 24 hrs. I will get results and start getting my sons texts since they both have iphones still. Thank You
