Galaxy S5: How's everyone's battery life so far?

Re: How's everyone's battery life so far?

How are you guys getting 6-10 hrs of on screen time? Are you disabling everything and using your phone as a 1990's phone lol, if so that's no fun! How is the battery of you people that use your phone how it's supposed to be used?!

I have screen on auto brightness, I have location on high accuracy for the Samsung weather widget WiFi on at all times even if I'm not connected. no Bluetooth. All my apps like gmail,Facebook,Snapchat,Instagram, weather widget all auto syncing. I use all those apps plus ESPN score center, AC forums, web browsing, my Verizon mobile, hardest game ever, and funny jokes every day. I do a lot of web browsing, facebook messenger, texting, and maybe a few short YouTube videos a day like 20 minutes total of videos. I stream Pandora to and from work so maybe 30 minutes total. And I've been getting in the 14hr-18hr total on time and on work days where I'm on LTE all day I get around 4-5hrs screen on time. That's down to about 10-15%. On my days off work where I'm on WiFi the majority of the time I can get about 6-7hrs screen on time.

Re: How's everyone's battery life so far?

On Apr 16-19 I used down to 23% of my battery and got 7:44. On Apr 19, only, I used down to 41% and got 5:05. Today my battery is at 74% and my screen time is at 4:33. I've been playing with all the phone features and apps and have made only a few phone calls.

In contrast my battery for my Kindle Fire HDX lasts 8 to 10 days (rare usage) and I only get about 3 hours of screen time. It appears, if a device is used a lot, battery screen time is higher. If it is not used much, battery screen time is lower.

If one uses the phone features a lot, screen time will probably be a lot lower.

Probably on WiFi most of the time. I get crazy long screen time when I'm at home on WiFi. It's pretty impressive.

Re: How's everyone's battery life so far?

Personally I never experienced that good battery time on a phone ever, considered the Specs offcourse. I can`t let the phone rest :) Turned on Ultra Battery Mode with 7% when I went to bed and 8 hours later the % was dropped 1%.... amazing.

I agree on that. I only lose 1% of battery after sleeping 8 hours in Ultra High Power Saving Mode. If one is only using phone calls and messaging, leave it in that mode ALL THE TIME. Battery will last 12 days that way.

Once I'm done with all my learning on the S5, I'll leave it that way unless I want to play music or read an eBook. I believe the Galaxy S5 is the ONLY device available at the moment with that mode. It is a major break through in technology.

From reading this thread it sounds like I'll probably need to get a second battery. On my S3 I usually can't get through a day without charging it in the car at some point. My usage is possibly above normal. About 1000 minutes a month, 1gb of mobile data usage. Some days up to an hour of google maps for navigation.
On a slow day I can get through the day without a charge, but on busy days, forget it.

I switched to ART to test the battery performance, which was much more involved than I realized (basically updating the whole OS and optimizing each app individually). However, I had a software bug in my dialer that this fixed! I am wondering if switching between ART and Dalvik is an alternative to factory reset in terms of fixing glitches in the OS - that would be huge for people who spent a lot of time customizing their device.

In the first few days the battery time was very good for me. But after all the geeky setup the battery drained dramaticly.
After some research I found out that the Exchange Mail setup drained it all up... Fix for me was the last post on this thread
: http://forums.androidcentral.com/t-...ttery-drain-issue-exchange-services-data.html
And after that fix I had new problem with Android Services drained the battery alot and found this tip helpful: https://productforums.google.com/d/msg/nexus/kKJqGw-PFHc/jvFqtcQGNK8J :::
"""Something i tried yesterday and seems like battery is back to normal.
I switched to developer mode and activated the ART. It basically optimizes your apps as you know. Next played around with different apps. Then reverted it back to default run time. After this the battery behavior is back to normal. I mean now it is lasting for more than 24 hours with one charge.
I am not sure how technically it benefited by switching to ART and back to original. But it is working fine now.
Can anyone try this and check if the battery consumption betters. """

After that everything back to normal for me. Sorry for all the cut/paste stuff. New here and on forums :p Images below show`s (I hope) before and after the fixes.
Norwegian language but think the symbols should be enough to understand..

I extended my battery life quite a bit by turning off Google's Location Reporting.

Settings > Connections > Location > Google Location Reporting > Location Reporting: Off for this device

By having these on I would see "Android System" taking up almost 50% of my battery life, far more than even Screen. Now, after 24 hours, Android System is only at 18% usage with 42% battery life left.

I used ART for a while then when i checked for software updated it accused me of installing unauthorised software into my phone, I then went back to Dalvik and could check for updates as normal. I think that ART was slightly better as i'm noticing lag that I don't think was present when I was running ART. I am worried if it may have tripped the Knox thing though, what do you think?

You should be fine once on Dalvik. Sammy should update that asap though

Worked night shift yesterday. Turned on 14:00 and used it all night at work.

Browsing, texting and two hours of streaming the Penguins & Blue Jackets, Blackhawks & Blues game and YouTube.

I got home this morning with 30% battery life left.

I'm impressed!

Love the battery life on this phone, especially coming from a Moto X and N5. Makes it worth the purchase for me alone.

No, just install Battery Doctor app.
It will kill off all the background apps after the screen times out, or you click it off.
I used my S5 today a lot for 10 hours at work with GPS tracking turned on and reporting to the GPS tracking server.
I still have 27% left.

Battery Doctor can analyze what's going on and shut off the junk

Killing apps in the RAM is more detrimental to battery life than leaving them open is. Using third party apps to do that for you isn't really helpful.

I have mine optimized pretty good. I was out tonight for 5 hours after using it all day but did charge it and I had about 32 minutes of phone calls, had the screen on the whole time at my kids little league game as I use a scorekeeper, stat tracker, and other program as I am the official score keeper, and was playing a little word game on the side. After 3 hours 42 minutes of being on, it was at 88% battery life. I have turned off and disabled many unneeded services and use Fast Reboot Pro to stop battery eating processes.

The first few days my phone would have been below 50% with that kind of use so you really can optimize it.

I have not looked into rooting the phone yet because KNOX is already on the VZW version but it allows you to actually turn off any of the Verizon crapware. I am sure once I check out XDA and see what exploits are out there for rooting, I can get this phone to last 48 hours with moderate use but not playing games with that 2800mah battery. I am curious if Anker will make a 3200mah battery the same size. I have had good luck with their products personally but am not endorsing it for others :)

Mine has been good. I listened to a lot of music, watched some YouTube videos and some vine.
