I recently got a new Desktop and I also have 2 laptops. When I connect my S5 to my Desktop it does not get recognized at all. Not even the normal notification sound that plays when it recognizes that something is connected.
When I plug it into any of my other 2 laptops, it gets instantly recognized. At first I thought maybe the USB ports are bad, so I tested a USB flash drive in all of them and each and everyone recognized it instantly without any problems. Next logical thing was that I thought the cord was bad so I switched them numerous times to no avail. Then I proceeded to download the drivers for ATT's S5 directly from Samsung, confident it would work this time, but again it doesn't read it at all. The phone is getting battery charge from it, but the desktop shows no signs of recognzing my phone is connected at all. When I open up File Exploerer all that shows up are my 2 hard drivers that I have named Zeus and Hydra.
After searching the internet many people had given tips about having USB Debugging off, and on my S5 it is and always has been. (I even tried with it on, same result)
Next many people suggested to others that maybe it is connected for charging only in the drop down menu, but when I checked the (MTP) is checked and I even tried using the PTP one, but again same result. I've tried restarting my desktop and my phone, but again same result, nothing works.
It is a white Samsung S5 from ATT running Android 5.0 and is NOT rooted.
SO as a last ditched effort right now, I am asking the community on here, is there anything I could possibly do to have my desktop recognize my phone?
