Galaxy S5 or Sony Experia Z2

Wow so im not alone. I thought i was the only one who was considering switching to Z2. As per reviews and forums on Z1, it seems the battery lasting long and the camera of Z1 was decent enough (i was trying to get a feel for future Z2 performance by reading Z1 reviews).

So camerawise, you guys think the S5 has the edge?

Also, when they say waterproof and it is IPxx certified, are they also saying it is good in SALTWATER? Apparently, supposedly not for saltwater but some videos on youtube show the Z1 and S4 active being taken to saltwater and surviving it.

Heck, im so torn with the two i might just buy both fones lol

I am currently using an iPhone 5 but have a Nexus 5 that I switch to when the itch needs to be scratched. Both the Z2 and GS5 appeal to me on several levels: water resistance, battery capacities, and larger displays. Build quality is also important and I'd give the nod to Sony between the two. Now that my 4 year old is swimming every weekend and we have been going to the beach regularly the feature that appeals to me the most is the IP rating on both phones. I never would have guessed that it would be the big feature for me this upgrade cycle. I've seen a person with a Z1 at the pool and it is both an awesome and handy feature to have. The viewing angles were not great but the build quality was exceptional. The rub is that I'd be willing to bet the Z2 doesn't hit AT&T. I'd like to see what Apple does with the iPhone 6 but I'd guess that it will not have an IP certification. Ack, this decision will be tough.

Rumours from people in the know say the Z2 is coming to Verizon. Shocking I know. But this source is always dead on with Sony details.

How ironic would that be, the Z2 on Verizon and not on AT&T...and I just switched from Verizon to AT&T...of course. I still would find it hard to believe that if it winds up on Verizon it wouldn't on AT&T. After all, this is essentially a GSM phone.

Does Sony typically include CDMA radios? If not it would be an interesting change for them and I'd wonder why they'd not include Sprint as well.

I think it's highly unusual for Sony to do CDMA. I was with Verizon for a long time and I can't recall their phones ever being on Verizon (or Sprint for that matter) during that period.

It seems to be GSM for them all the way. I'll believe the CDMA radio when I see it. ;)

Sony actually let's you calibrate the screen. Believe I saw that in a video review if the device on YouTube. interestimg

Anything on the AT&T side?

I have heard nothing about At&T other than there will be a Z2 that will support the bands required for At&t LTE. Sounds most likely like an unsubsidized phone at this point.
And I know it sounds totally crazy for this to be on big red, but that's what I'm hearing. I think Sony has always wanted there phones on all the carriers. They just haven't been successful in convincing them to buy them. Maybe Verizon is figuring out that people want something different and that people will switch for a certain device.

I understand your doubt. I'm not convinced myself. But I think Sony would jump at the chance. They've tried to sell phones to Verizon before, they just haven't been able to get big red to jump

We will have to see how the battery life of each stacks up, I would think they would be about even with the s5 being better optimized to make up for the size difference. The screen for me is a huge win for the S5 as I have really missed the black levels and darkness of it with my Nexus 4 and poor sunlight performance has never been an issue for me.

I think Galaxy S5 is better overall in any aspects but 16GB Internal and 2GB RAM dropped the ball.
Z2 has only 16GB internal storage and non-removable battery.

Get Note III because 16GB Internal means if you loads 2-3 HD games , boom ! storage is over but Note III has 32GB Internal as well as 3GB RAM and also a stylus.Additionally comes with SD-slot and removable battery.

Note III battery life will own other two devices as well.

edit : Note III does support 4K recording
Screen can also be operated with gloves. (not sure about GS5 and XZ2)

I have been look at info about both devices. I would go Samsung S5 myself.
People tend to go android to get out from under 'proprietary' things like iTunes, Lightning etc.
The Sony phone will have to have a proprietary Sony only charger etc.
I am not crazy about the back on the S5 but that isn't a deal killer.
Maybe some company will get smart and release replacement backs. If I had a company that could make them, I would.
The S5 will sells by the millions and thats millions of potential sales.

The Sony Z2 does not require a special charger. It will charge with a regular USB charger or you can get a magnetic charger so you don't have to open the cover over the USB port. The S5 has a covered port also

Love Z Ultra (first XPERIA) so I have no doubts about the Z2! Sony made all the improvements that they needed too.

As for the Magnetic Charger it's great, I actually prefer it so much easier to use. Look at eBay for the cable.

My only issue is there's no release date floating around. I have no idea when this is coming out?

Don't get me wrong here guys. I like the look of the Z2. I think it will be an awesome device without a doubt.
I just think, for me, I would prefer the S5. It too, is an S4 with all the right improvements.
