Galaxy S5 OTG Support

I upgraded to an S5 from an S4. On my S4 I was abke to plug my OTG smart card reader and my OTG USB flash drive cable in the phone and 'my files' would pop up with the files on my MicroSD card or USB flash drive. On my S5 I tried to do that with the OTG cable and USB flash drive and nothing happened. It didn't even show up in 'my files'. Does the S5 have the ability to read from OTG cables and devices and if so how do I get my S5 to read from them?

I no longer have the Droid Turbo 2. We took our Turbo 2's back and got the Galaxy S5. Couldnt get the S7 because of restrictions on when we got the Droid Turbo 2, so we had to get the S5. We love the Galaxy S series! But yes, now the S5 won't read my USB OTG card reader or cable. I should just be able to plug it in and "my files" will pop up with the files on the MicroSD card or USB flash drive. And I know that the cable is good and so is the OTG smart card reader as both worked just fine on my old S4.

If all your phones won't work with your cable now... it's not the phones. Just because it worked with your S4 doesn't mean it's good now. I just recently took apart a brand new OTG cable because it was intermittent... found out one of the solder leads was broken. It's not an uncommon problem, that's why I own 5 cables.

So I just plugged in my OTG smart card reader and it is now working. However, my flash drives are still not working with my OTG cable. The only thing I can think of is to get a new cable and see if its just my cable. Thanks for all the help!

All OTG cables are cheaply mass produced. I'm not at all surprised you got it to work after so many tries. Yes, a new cable would be a good thing... providing you get lucky and get a decent cable.

The smart card reader works which is what I use for my MicroSD cards. The OTG cable I used for the USB flash drives and that one is not working. So I will just pick another one up and hope it works.

Is there a card reader that allows me to read my MicroSD cards and plug in my USB flash drives as well? Also I have been looking for a OTG cable that allows me to read my MicroSD cards and USB flash drives and charge the phone at the same time. Do those exist at all? I haven't been able to find any on the internet.

There are a ton of OTG adapters on Amazon, but I haven't seen one that also charges the phone... admittedly, I never really looked for one though. THIS is the reader I'm using right now. It works well and the supplied USB adapter is so you can connect the reader to a PC. It doesn't read flash drives though.
