Galaxy S5 Water Resistant?! Maybe "in your dreams" but not mine ;)

Re: Water Damaged S5 was NOT Covered by Verizon!

I don't stress some water getting on my phone. That being said, submerging it in a pool to take pics is nuts imo. That's a lot of faith in the little gasket on the flimsy back panel. Common sense tells me not to have high expectations of it. It might save your phone if you experience an oh crap moment. (i.e. dropped it in the sink while shaving). Then again, it might not. But to each their own....

The fact that it's from China and always makes me shiver a bit only because I know how often they make and sell fake-branded items. Let us know how it turns out. I'm always curious with overseas orders. Small things I'll buy, bigger items and electrical items I tend to steer clear of.

This one even comes with the charging pad, and a very reasonable price I might add.

* Qi Standard Wireless Charger kit 'mine' for $18.99 and includes the charger pad

What isn't made in China today?

I'm guessing that this Qi charger must not be very good, as it has worked perfectly for me only since May 1st, 2014.

Re: Water Damaged S5 was NOT Covered by Verizon!

The family was watching tv last night and every other commercial break featured an S5 ad with lifestyle features touted. It seemed like all the ads ever made for the S5 and active played during that show. I think they knew I was watching...

My daughter yelled 'how can they show that?!" after the bathtub dunk scene. Her phone had not been under more water than that or the sink drop for that matter. None of our phones had, but it doesn't matter. They will advertise far-fetched features and furnish sales pitches as long as we will buy them. They know well what the public would like to have and if they can't provide it they obviously will pretend to do so also knowing they won't have to support any problems. Again, it seems acquiring a new customer is more important than retaining that customer or the negative 'marketing' failed products and service produce. It's a numbers game. I'd be interested in putting up a poll thread to see how many of our small but influential group of owners have had problems with water damage or if they think water damage would be covered. Any advice on a poll?

Thanks,

Oz

Re: FOR WHO THINK samsung s5 WATERPROOF IT'S WATER RESISTANT

"Let's take my new waterproof s5 in the pool and take some pictures!" that's a pretty big risk that I'm not willing to take with my water RESISTANT phone😂

Sent from my rooted Verizon galaxy s5

Re: FOR WHO THINK samsung s5 WATERPROOF IT'S WATER RESISTANT

water proof sounds cooler. lol

Re: FOR WHO THINK samsung s5 WATERPROOF IT'S WATER RESISTANT

I just posted this in another thread, but this one is more applicable...

IP67 means tested at 1 meter under water for 30 minutes with no degrade in performance. I pretty much consider this water proof, although pressure increases with depth, so I wouldn't get too carried away.

Mine has seen the bottom of a bath tub, several dips in a hot tub, and also shot video from the side of a sail boat in 8 foot waves, getting pounded by water the whole time. Still going strong!

P.S. I have no phone insurance, and like to live dangerously :)

Re: FOR WHO THINK samsung s5 WATERPROOF IT'S WATER RESISTANT

My S5 has watched me drink a glass of water and dribble a bit on my chin.

does that count?

Nope, it's not. Pretty bad design isn't it?

Re: Is my galaxy s5 still waterproof even though the charging flap broke off?

It was never waterproof; only water resistant. And now it isn't even that. Although I'm pretty sure you can replace the flap without too much hassle.

Re: Is my galaxy s5 still waterproof even though the charging flap broke off?

No, feel free to test it though :)

I don't know where people get Water Proof from.. I haven't seen anything that uses that term. Water Resistant, yeah. Even Telus sold it as 'Water Resistant'. I would never take this thing swimming or anything like some. I see it for more of a 'Oh crap, it's starting to rain' and stuff like that.

You can, it's fairly easy. Remove the back cover, unscrew one screw, pull the old one out and put the new one in. Should take less than 5 minutes. It's what convinced me I didn't need to get wireless charging to keep it from breaking as it seems so flimsy.

S5 Water Damage - Help ASAP

Without getting too much into how my phone was damaged but I was at the lake and my phone was wet/submerged for only a few seconds.

The water damage indicators beneath and on the battery are all red. No signs of hardware damage until 10 days after being in the water. First sign was the screen light started to flicker. The flicker got worse and eventually the entire screen was flickering to where I couldn't see anything. Now the screen doesn't even turn on. It took 3 days to go from a flicker to not working. But here is the thing, the rest of the phone works! I still get all my notifications, alerts, and can even receive calls. She is still breathing but she can't see anything. I try hitting the power button and I get a quick flash. Tried the rice idea to absorb the moisture for 2 days and nothing changed. Please assist asap! Thanks!

Re: S5 Water Damage - Help ASAP

The downside to this situation is depending on where the water went, almost anything could be damaged. To add to it, you fix one thing now, you might have to fix something else a month or two later.

Do you have insurance on the device?

Re: S5 Water Damage - Help ASAP

Thanks for your feedback. Unfortunately, I did not purchase the insurance. I am one of those who has the extra armor case with the thick screen protector so I thought the S5 would be secure since it's water resistant.

Is this a case where I need to replace a component or simply purchase a new phone? The bluetooth still connect to my car. Maybe I'm being a little too hopeful.

Personally, I would get a new phone. Like I said, more damage as a result from the water might show up later, and keep showing up.
