Galaxy S5 Water Resistant?! Maybe "in your dreams" but not mine ;)

re: water resistant my butt

As stated, water resistance is good to depth and pressure of approximately three feet. Holding the phone under a running faucet may be too much pressure.

Hey dada...,

Check our my post on Verizon not covering water damage.

My phone got water into it in my pocket, in less than a few inches of water as I went in after my son. I tested the my suspicion of the seals not working by closing up all "ports" on the phone and putting it into a baggie of water for 10 seconds, no shaking. Water filled the phone.

Seals can be faulty.

Re: Water Damaged S5 was NOT Covered by Verizon!

I have two of these right now and they work fine in both S5 phones.

Just got the new phones, $300 in deductibles.

Fool me once shame on you.Fool me twice shame on me.

shopping for cases and wireless receivers.

I keep going back to those commercials where the phones are run under a tap.

....but not bounced off concrete in 3in-deep water or used to take pictures underwater right. Well and marketing sometimes makes claims that engineering wishes they wouldn't. :/

LG said explicitly the G3 should be assumed to have NO special resistances, they probably put some in but they want to discourage testing their limits. :3

I really would be interested in a 100% hole-free phone. As long as its not a Kyocera probably.

re: water resistant my butt

Seriously? Do you guys know the difference between water proof and water resistant? Resistant means if you spill drink on it or use it in the rain, everything will be ok. It does not mean dunk your phone in the pool or stick it under the faucet.... Use a little bit of common sense!!!!!

re: water resistant my butt

I washed my S5 using a trickle of running water and didn't have any issues at all. Mine is water resistant. That's MY story and I'm sticking to it.

How is the sony phone?

Not appreciating your flame BSR. Check out the commercials promoting what you say common sense would avoid. And the definition mentioned is detailed well in the IP6 rating. Just saying.

Oh you saw a commercial...and we both know everything on TV and the internet is 100% true and accurate.

Look, do what ever you want with your phone, but it clearly says water resistant, not water proof.

Re: Water Damaged S5 was NOT Covered by Verizon!

I can't begin to do anything but laugh when I A-Typical Americans, think that anything said to them from Sales Agents is legitimate. Like any american when you don't get your way you'll turn liberal and throw a fit until replacement occurs, IP67 is RESISTANT not proof, I think we're done here, and you have ZERO argument for warranting a replacement. Second, to claim Samsungs service to ****, is comical, have you ever got assistance from any other company that superior? ASIDE from apple which gets money DIRECTLY from the customer through a private NON-3rd party coverage. To think the manufacture is responsible for replacing faulty items is not Samsungs fault, every company mirrors these policies, THE PHONE COMPANIES WHO ARE WELL AWARE OF ALL OF THIS INFORMATION, Fail to tell you these details... why? Because you'll turn down product protection, and all the extra sales gimmicks that just make the entire experience expensive. YOU pay THEM monthly, not the manufacture. Humans think just because you turn technology into a requirement for life you're entitled or justified. If your DELL or HP computer craps out on you...you're not calling HP or Dell demanding they cover you internet bill and replace the PC are you??? They like ANY ELECTRONIC manufacture will tell you to TAKE IT BACK TO THE SALES LOCATION, problem is ATT,VZW,Tmobile, or ANY other sales company purposely cut these ties at 14 days, and have a neat tactic to dishing out the responsibility to other companies...

Samsung sells the product too VZW/Tmobile, these companies set the value or price, when you go to get it replaced, it HITS their pockets as a company and they don't like that. Also electronic manufactures aren't required to provide a single shred of Customer service, they provide SPECIFICALLY ''TECHNICAL SUPPORT / WARRANTY SUPPORT''. The company known as a '' SERVICE PROVIDER'' wait? did you catch that? SERVICE PROVIDER , is responsible for providing guess what? "CUSTOMER''SERVICE''

Let me guess you think VZW is terrible and has bad service? There's little you can do to argue the fact their network is large, state of the art LTE (they did it first, since sprint failed HSP+) and the fastest speeds posted to date. Wireless-ly speaking

You think Samsung is a bad company with bad service? Did you think maybe it's cause they arent American? Maybe the phones are more advanced then apples (tho they have the same CPU/Digitizer designs), more expensive to build, more features to support, and you're not paying them a personal fee of 100/200 for applecare to think you have some special advantage. you don't.
- Apple phones are cheaper to swap out hence why and how they do it
- Apple-care costs as much as your normal INSURANCE DEDUCTIBLE, but they pre-sell it so you hardly notice
- Apple wins because FOR 90 DAYS you get apple-care at no cost

Just like people who have cars and choose to not follow the rules of the road and get in an accident and have crappy coverage or no coverage at all.... the system is going to ruthlessly punish you.

All the companies offer the same warranties, all companies have a 14 day return policy, all phones offered to you will be refurbished, the manufacture rebuild and reassembles refurbish devices, meaning the parts are new, similar to a car, it will either run better or worse...

no phone is water proof, no phone is safe from damage. UNLESS ITS 100% MANUFACTURE DEFECT
you DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT deserve or are entitled to a replacement. Americans seems to think we can ***** and cry about these business structures when we're racing to them with no education, but have the sales guy hammers things into you... The technological age has everybody thinking they can set the expectation for things they know nothing about,...just because of the fact they spent ''Money''

Phones aren't poorly built, just poorly handled, Stop blaming the case companies, the phone companies, and the sales guy that SOLD you into thinking you could drop the phone all over the place.

I wanna say GREAT post for the simple fact, I hope others are far less naive and far less stupid. Be realistic and realize all of these businesses want your money.... nothing else. Half of you people got the phones to ''Fit In'' with the tech age, Claim it's your ''Business Phone'' Yet have no backup line meaning your business is minimal and not to be taken seriously.

Maybe you need to learn what water resistance with a rating of IP67 actually means...IP Code - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

6- Dust tight No ingress of dust; complete protection against contact (dust tight)

7- Immersion up to 1 m Ingress of water in harmful quantity shall not be possible when the enclosure is immersed in water under defined conditions of pressure and time (up to 1 m of submersion).

Test duration: 30 minutes Immersion at depth of at most 1 m measured at bottom of device, and at least 15 cm measured at top of device

Re: water resistant my bottom

From what I've seen, in the Samsung S5 commercial it looked water proof after the kid brushed his teeth he ran it a faucet like he was rising it off. That would give me the impression it's water proof.

You have to keep in mind, there's not much of a pressure difference in 1 meter of water. It's not even a half atmospheric difference. And these tests are done by simply submerging the item in STILL water. When you add a faucet to the mix, you're talking about running/moving water that's hitting at a much higher pressure than one would face in 1 meter of still water. It's simply 2 different things, but I get the point you're attempting to make.

By water resistant, in a practical environment, the phone is really only meant to be splashed indirectly, dripped on by sweat or a drink at the bar or something subtle like that. It's NOT meant for you to drive into a pool and shoot videos, or send a text while scuba diving off the side of a boat. It's made for general practical "oh no my phone got wet" type scenarios. If you wanted a waterproof phone, well you simply made a bad purchase because this phone is not that to that extent.

Water RESISTANT. And when handled CAREFULLY it's fine. You should definitely check your seals first. I've even heard a few people talking about adding some "umph" to their seals with the addition of silicon caulking. But just because a commercial does something, doesn't mean the consumer should.

While this is true, if the phone cannot hold up to what Samsung shows on its commercials, that is grounds for legal action.

I will have to admit much of what was said here is for the most part true. Many times when something goes wrong most will turn instantly to warranty and demand a new phone. When that doesn't happen and/or they are offered a refurb they aren't happy. " What?? I get a refurbished model for my 30 day old phone?" Yes.. After the initial 14 day window it is at the OEM or carrier/store's discretion to replace it with a new model in the box which doesn't happen often because then the store has to some how justify the cost of that new phone which won't be sold or have a new contract or agreement signed to it.

Only part of this rant I have a real problem with is the constant " American's " finger pointing. I think this can be said for anyone, globally and its not just " American's ". As a volunteer Ambassador & Moderator combined time of almost 4 years here at AC I have seen hundreds into the thousands of complaints and rants from all over the globe and people from every region and country do the same thing and point fingers at the carrier, store or OEM demanding they get things their way. Its just human nature, you spend your hard earned money so you expect 100% satisfaction in return. The key to the 100% customer/company satisfaction is how both parties approach things. If your demanding & rude chances are your not going to have a good experience. Even though its hard to do, taking a more polite and patient approach at resolving your complaint or issue many times will yield a good experience in return.

Final thought, as customers we do have to take it into our own hands and do as much research as possible when it comes to the " specs " and " perks " of any device. Learning the real difference between terms like " water resistant " and " water proof " is huge and could mean the difference between your phone surviving that quick splash in the pool or not depending on what your phone is truly designed to withstand and for length of time. All this provided that you have all the proper covers, plugs, etc all in place and working as tested.

Just my thoughts & my opinion shared here are not reflected as part of Android Central or Mobile Nations.

Re: Water Damaged S5 was NOT Covered by Verizon!

ok its water resistant for accidents, not to b taken swimming! idc what the ads say the only tech thats going underwater is a cheap sports watch or something built to be used underwater! i wont even wash dishes with my more pricey watches

No, we call that luck, as in "You're lucky you didn't fry your phone when you submerged it underwater"

What, may I ask, does IP67 mean, then? Nobody claimed it was "waterproof".

Re: Water Damaged S5 was NOT Covered by Verizon!

People make the same rants about water proof cases, complaining why their water proof case failed. Or why their screen was shattered even when they had a tempered glass screen protector. Both cases, some customers expect the case manufacturer or tempered glass screen protector manufacturer to fix their phone. But remember, unless there is insurance attached, there is no guarantee of replacement for accidental damage.

As I said before, Samsung does offer insurance coverage for water damage or cracked screen, depending on what country you are in. These devices are also sold at a higher price than Verizon.

Also, as for new phone replacements, Costco wireless will do new phone warranty replacements for 90 days. This of course doesn't cover accidental damage.
