Galaxy S6 Active: 5.1.1? Where is it?

Is anyone else disappointed that Samsung launched a new phone and it is running 5.0.2 instead of the latest version of Android? Samsung should be ashamed that Motorola is beating them at rolling out 5.1.1 before they do.

You have been here long enough to know that updates to carrier branded devices are the responsibility of the carrier NOT the device manufacturer. Have you seen the issues with T mobile already releasing 5.1.1 for their Galaxy S5 phones? I seriously doubt we will see an Android update on the S6 Active for quite awhile, if at all.

We will see one right before the Active s7 is released I bet or shortly thereafter with M. What I would like to see is Samsung push out the camera update in full though. That shouldn't have to be cleared with the carriers or pushed by them. They have done this before when I had my Note II.

Same here. I have no problems with this version of Android.

I would care if 5.1.1 offered substantial upgrades, but as it stands, I couldn't care less if it shipped with KitKat

Well looks like it is being pushed out for the S6 and S6 Edge.....The Active is the same phone an the S6 why cant it take the same update.

Well its not going to be exactly the same software because it has the active button and no FP scanner.... but i would imagine it's 98% the same code.

It has not rolled out for the AT&T variants of the S6 or S6 Edge yet. So until that happens, it's not coming to the S6 Active either since it's an AT&T exclusive.

Exactly. All these complaints can be shelved until ATT releases the update for the GS6 and Edge.

This is absolutely true. I have the S5 Active and it has received every Android update that the regular S5 received. But it was always within anywhere between a few days to a couple of weeks after the AT&T S5 received it.

There is a pretty significant security upgrade in the 5.1.1 version I believe.

I really do like the S6 Active. It has a great camera, good battery life and durability. It has also taught me the lesson to not buy carrier branded one-off variants of a phone. I think the new Droid Turbo 2 falls in the same boat, it looks good from a hardware perspective, but it is too tied to Verizon for software updates. If Samsung ever moves away from being tied to carriers software approval process, I might come back. Despite some software issues I've had with my phone, Samsung produces a very nice piece of hardware. I'd be happy if they move closer to stock android for the core experience.

Nov 1st is almost here, still keeping my fingers crossed for something.

I absolutely love the Active. I have no intentions of getting rid of it at the moment, but I do know it'll be my last carrier branded phone. When I get ready to replace it, I'll be going with a Nexus, probably.
