Galaxy S6 Battery Review from a Real User

I hope this clarifys the issue for what may become once you turn off wifi calling on T-Mobile.

I think 4 1/2 is a realistic goal for battery life on this phone, especially the Edge. I'm just frankly tired of talking about it; I want this damn phone in my hands so I can review it already. This is approaching Galaxy Nexus level for me.

This is definitely a newb question. When you guys are talking screen on time as a way to measure battery life? Does it mean continuous load on the device to see how long before it quits? If so, who has the time to even test it?

I'm going to start uninstalling apps to see what is going on. I have my phone set up exactly like my Note 4 which was fine on battery. I know the battery is smaller in the S6, but my battery drained 22% during my 38 minute drive home. I was playing Google Play Music via Bluetooth with the music already downloaded on the phone. Definitely have to figure out what is going on here.

I suspect the problem is from Google apps.

I wonder though, he seemed to have been streaming Hulu a lot. Would Hulu eat more battery or less? I assume more, right? Because if one is just using the device for some browsing, email/texts, and maybe a game or two here or there, would the SOT be even > 5 hours???

There seems to be a bug with wifi calling on by default. So if turned off you don't get a huge drain on battery from it constantly running.

What I posted proved that he truly used his phone and still got great battery life.

Turn off wifi calling. Your problem should be solved then. It's a bug.

Screen on time is a way to judge how long a user can use thier phone. It is closely tide to total standby.

So on your past S4, you more or less had 4 to 4 1/2 hours of screen on time with it. If you only used the screen briefly once in a while, you'll still get 4ish hours, but about 16 hours of total use.

But if you use your screen for large chunks of time, say 4 hours straight while viewing YouTube, then you'll have no standby left as you used up your battery.

I hope I made sense. If not, I'll be glad to help.

Edit: so if the SoT is bad or less then the past (vs S5), then you'll wind up being able to use your phone less or have less standby or total time before the phone dies. It's why is so important.

So with the screen shots I posted he got 5 1/2 hours of screen on time with 11 1/2 hours of total time or standby.
If he used his screen less, his standby numbers would increase.

The problem is you'll get as many different reports from "real users" as there are users so they're not as reliable as in depth side by side tests by respectable tech news outlets. When a site like Anandtech tells me it's above the 2014/2015 flagship average I'll pay attention. For the record, I also disagree with you that he's a medium user. I agree with his own assessment of himself where he identifies himself as a light user. There's a lot of standby time going on there.

Seriously guys if you want a long lasting battery phone, you knew galaxy s6 wasn't the answer. Go with moto droid turbo or z3. The least sot ur going to get out of this phone is 3 hrs and most is less than 6 hours. The only thing you shouldn't do is buy the phone and worry that it doesn't last longer then 5 hrs. Which in turn is good because next time you'll buy another phone or skip this one and help the competition.

That's the thing, I too agree that big sites are best for testing phones for the reasons you mentioned. But that wasn't the point of why I posted the screen shots.

While we might disagree with what medium use is, he did at least use his phone. He streamed both music and video as well as other stuff enough to even go above the kernel. He still had over 5 hours of screen time with all that. Most weren't getting much more then half of that due to the bug.

With that said, I'm making no claims other than there is a bug on T-Mobile and once wifi calling is turned off screen on times improve. That is all.
