Galaxy S6 - Phone Lag

As much as I love the customization of Android and the S6, the lag is bad, the delay as well....I have a friend who has the S6, and be agrees. He said the default keyboard lags like no other and is delayed. I had to download the Google Keyboard for that reason and use that. Now for those who own or have owned the Note 4, does the default keyboard lag or phone lag at all? Deciding rather to get the Note 5, or go back to the iPhone, which I will just wait until next month, because that is when the new iPhone comes out. I came from an iPhone 6 Plus, with zero lag and delay, smooth and fast, but wanted to try something different

I have nothing wrong with Apple because I love their Macbooks but 99% of people get an iPhone to feel cooler. Apple has a fan club. Now we come to the Galaxy S6. I think most here would say they could use a S6, Nexus 6, Note 4, Moto X, etc. In my opinion the software of Android is superior to iOS. Apple limits you about like having a 1 foot leash on a great dane. I LOVE my S6 but if I had the opportunity to get a Note 4, Note 5, Moto X Style, Nexus 6, Etc. I would. Only because I like android. In your case, find which one you like most. You will not find a perfect phone. Only the perfect one for you at that time.

Mine lags too. I'm sticking with it hoping that future updates will help. I love the look and feel of the phone so I'm gonna ride it out, but I won't be getting another samsung phone if it doesn't improve with time. Im just getting tired of the same issues every year with them. The stock keyboard lags and stutters a bit as well, but I learned to live with it by now.
It's awesome that some people never experience any issues with their Sammy phone but it's no secret that lag and Samsung go hand and hand. Not sure why people are so shocked when others experience these issues.

Tmobile has the Note 4 for $549 and gave me $401 trade in for my s6 today. Note 4 deep discounts now due to the Note 5 coming out.

The Note 4 lot less lag and has expandable memory, better battery and can swap the battery. I use my phone a lot and the S6 battery life is simply unacceptable for this price point and phone.

Gives me a year on this to see how the S7 is. I won't buy an S7 as fast this time and if the s7 has small battery and such I won't be switching and might try another brand or apple.

The lag on my s6 also is an issue as of late too. Glad I got the note 4.

I'm curious... what kind of lag are you referring to? Are your lag times in seconds? Like 2 or 3, or maybe 5? My Note 4 doesn't have any lag that bothers me. Everything I do happens in milliseconds. Sure, my eyes can detect millisecond lags, but I don't see that amount of time as a problem.

I really don't think the Note 5 will run any faster than my Note 4, so if millisecond lags bother you, you probably shouldn't get the Note 5. iPhone might be the way to go for you.

Exactly, these people posting being shocked and saying lag does not exist on the S6, haha.....the stock keyboard is absolutely horrible, and I got rid of my iPhone 6 Plus with zero lag and smooth keyboard for this....I wanted to give Android a chance again, but it's 2015 and lag still exist? Messaging app is slow to open, among other apps, in fact most of the stuff I do on the phone, there is a delay, I am typing on the Google Keyboard I downloaded from the Google Play Store, and it is fast and smooth with zero lag, but I had to result to downloading a third party keyboard, because the stock keyboard is slow and lagging, it is sad. I really want to give the Note 5 a chance, but seeing the lag in the S6, makes me question rather or not I should wait a month which I will have to stick it out, to get the new iPhone, these phones are expensive, lag like this should not exist at all.

Maybe because a lot of us are not experiencing this. I use the stock keyboard religiously and input is always quick and snappy. Same with the messaging app, stock browser, heck the whole phone. If you've already tried a factory reset, you need to look at what apps you're running that could be causing such a downgrade in performance. For all we know you could be using task killers, anti virus, or some other 3rd party apps, but you haven't specified this. You've just come out like a bunch of others claiming to have lag without telling us what you've done to solve it or what your setup is, so yes, excuse me for being a little skeptical.

No third party apps, except the Google Keyboard, I am using Nova Launcher, and the stock keyboard lags like crazy, and I am not the only one in this thread who has mentioned it. Not running any anti-vrius or the others you have mentioned

When I type on my stock keyboard, letters, symbols, spaces, etc all happen instantaneously. What kind of lag are you referring to in "time". A second, two seconds? How much lag? You can't just say it's lagging without specifying the amount of time it takes.

Truth be told, I don't own a S6, but I can't believe it would be much different than my Note 4. Then again...

No lag at all. I think u are talking about the animations witch have a slow transition. If you go into developer options and change animations to .5 and turn off power save you will have no lag. Changing animations to 0 seem to make phone studder. My phone is fast as hell using touchwiz. I've used nova and it made it faster.

Open the developer settings and adjust animations and transitions from 1x to .5x...the phone doesn't LAG, it just slow at default settings in transitions.

I have no lag...I am also using the Google keyboard, problem solved. It's funny how its OK to complain users have a lag experience but as soon as some say they don't experience lag its false or in denial. I have no lag at all...I am happy with my phone.

I've got lag, too, unfortunately. Hopefully 5.1.1 will fix it. The RAM issue is very well-documented. Love the phone, otherwise, though!

Change it to 5x? I see some people changing it to 0.5, also how do I turn developer mode off, after I turned it on? I keep tapping the build number to turn it off, and it just keeps saying Developer Mode is already on. Also the stock keyboard has seconds delay is what it is, and sluggish, I am currently using the Google Keyboard and I am typing extremely fast. Also Twitter and Facebook and scrolling in general is lagging a bit, anyone to fix that?

Definitely a problem. Don't know what is causing it but I'm sure this isn't the norm... unless it's just the way the S6 is. I would be complaining too if this is what I experienced. Maybe take it up with Samsung or your carrier if you purchased the phone from them to see if a replacement is in order. I certainly wouldn't live with it.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I also don't get any scrolling lags while on the internet, facebook, twitter, etc. I have my Developer options set to "0" (off) for all three animation settings. Don't know if it affects scrolling though.

its 0.5x not 5x... chezm mentioned it as .5x maybe you missed the period.

TO turn off developer options go to Developer options and you will see a toggle button on the upper right. To turn it on again you should go to build number again and click it 5-7x.

As for my S6 i noticed lag before on the keyboard when i use multiple languages. You may try these and see if lag will disappear:


1. Use only one keyboard input language
2. Try to turn off predictive text (if you can live without it)
3. Turn off vibration and sound feedback of the keyboard press
4. Disable Power Saving mode (#1 culprit on lags as it throttle down your CPU significantly)
5. Close recent apps regularly.
6. Use stock theme and stock launcher (for testing purposes)

Let us know if there are improvements,

I have lag on the default Samsung keyboad too. It usually happens when I change themes and don't restart the phone or just have a lot of apps open. The lag is pretty bad, sometimes I'll start typing and nothing will happen for like 6-8 seconds then all of a sudden the entire sentence appears that I was trying to type
