Galaxy S6 - Phone Lag

Users experiencing 10-second load/switch times obviously have a software or hardware issue that has to be isolated and remedied, since that's not anywhere near normal behavior for the S6 or any other high-end Android device.

It would help immensely, however, if those stating they experience "lag" would be quite explicit and make some effort to quantify their statements. Otherwise there's no reliable way for readers to discern between real world performance and perception. (A properly-designed side-by-side video comparison, or some kind of demonstrable measurement sure would be nice.)

What exactly are people trying to describe? Input or touch response? Loading times? Slow app performance?
Which, and on what carrier, on which version of Android, and under what conditions?
How much, if any, of the reported behavior is S6 specific compared to other devices?

It seems really pointless to toss out vague (if not completely undefined) claims of performance differences, then berate other posters who state they don't experience them.

I think the difference is that most people that have lag and go to forums to seek help don't attack the people that dont have lag. Also, its true that the s6 has specs that are comparable to a PC, but by no means it works like one. I can do way more with my laptop, but the S6 Costs almost as much. Crazy Stuff. Funny thing is apple is alreday getting close to androids customization and still is a stable platform. I beta tested ios9 on my iPad and I loved it. I had zero problems with it even during the beta process. Again, the S6 is an awesome phone but u do need to settled for some stuff. I think this will be my last Sammy phone for sure.

I think an Android phone is very comparable to a light weight PC, I myself am a musician and mainly things I do with my desktop I can do on an android phone (with exceptions of course). My point is Android vs iPhone is not apples for apples and as such shouldn't be compared so strictly, although there will always be comparisons since they're competitors. I can't agree that iPhone is becoming as customizable as Android, I have used iOS8 on many devices and while its solid and works... its not customizable... and where it tries to be fails miserably (widgets implementation is horrible). I'll give Apple points for the 3D touch, I am very intrigued and impressed once I saw demos of it... and it has me jealous. But to call iPhone customizable... that's a big stretch in my books.

Oh yeah, there's lag. Definitely. My last Apple device I used was iPod Touch 2, but I can see how seamless iPhones are these days. Wife has iPhone 5s and I also saw how fast and smooth iPhone 6+ is. Both those feel very smooth when all three scenarios I mention below.

Lag 1. Open camera, take a picture. Then switch to picture review mode. See the 1+ second lag? If you don't see it, you are kidding yourself.

Lag 2. Task switcher always takes some time. At least like half a second. Some people will say it's nothing, but I see this as lag.

Lag 3. Sometimes when going back to home screen from an app, the whole launcher seems to relaunch. Probably a bug, but it's very annoying 1+ second lag here too.

Of course, all this is without any power saving mode or any rouge apps or heavy games. I don't want to switch to iOS because I'm heavily invested in Android and like the freedom of file management, tether, ad blocking, and other things. But now I'm almost considering switching to iPhone 6S. I might try Moto X Pure, but I'm hesitant because the 21MP camera's dog performance in low light.

Lag 1. I see that and dont consider that lag...

Lag 2. Task switcher is instant, no half seconds.

Lag 3. I admit to seeing this once in a blue moon...very rarely.

Thanks for the examples...but REALLY?...Really??...This is what quantifies Lag and drives people mad? Interesting.

Wow... Fascinating...I guess that helps to explain why some people say there is lag and others say there is not. I see all three of these on occasion, but I certainly would not characterize those a "lag." And it certainly doesn't bother me. I guess we all have own standards, but methinks the lady doth protest too much.

This is exactly my experience. I find it bizarre that this could be considered as lag.

I also own a iPhone 6 and I can say with absolute certainty that whilst ios is very slick it is also not completely 'lag free'. Suspended apps will load quickly but often have to be refreshed before updating.

Re: Can't handle the lag anymore

iPhones don't have regular lag. Sometimes, very rarely, the system hangs for a few seconds, but that's extremely rare. Androids seem to have an ever present lag in their normal use. Sometimes it seems like a disconnect from the touch screen to the UI responding, other times it's just a definite slow down. iOS and Android are written in different code and android in effect is an app running an app, an emulator of sorts. That is where all this memory management and larger memory requirements come in. iOS handles memory better and requires less and the hardware has no trouble keeping up with OS needs. My Nexus 5 (and now 6p) have little to no lag and seem butter smooth, as they are. But when I take my iphone 6 for a spin now and then it's still a better experience, it just seems to flow/animate/move the way the brain feels it should. Samsungs, despite their excellent chips and large ram numbers have to deal with TW, which is the culprit. I bought the galaxy s6 edge when it came out. Gorgeous.. but that keyboard lag was unbelievable. I'd type and sometimes the pop up animation would just stop mid sentence and stay there, as if the phone froze and then suddenly after a few seconds it would quickly completely the rest of the letters which I typed while it was frozen. The same happens with the google keyboard... it's a system wide problem. Dropped frames leading to slow or jerky animations. Makes my blood boil.

Only partly because some of Android is written in native code. Also, the problems with lag are not with Android but with Touchwiz

Hardware and software optimization, that's where iPhone (no older than 2 years) shines. If you're running a 2+ year old iPhone on the latest ios it will be laggy. But I agree, I love my S6 and it's fast enough for me... However, I can admit newer iPhone run smoother. For Android it also has to do with software and app optimization, some apps (ie specific keyboards ) work better than others. You'd think Samsung's stock all works perfectly but it doesn't.
