Galaxy S6!!! Swype Autocorrect option

So, simple question, is there, or is there not a way to turn off auto-correct on the S6, for the Swype keyboard?

My title is as it is because, no matter how concise your search is, on here, or on google, searching ANYTHING for turning off autocorrect will give you results for every other device in the universe but the s6. Kinda frustrating. :)

The menu is different, the settings are different, there is no "auto-complete" in the menu...the way you do it s5 and prior does NOT apply. Turning off some other option, like the auto-predict, auto-capitolize, etc, etc...does NOT work.

So, I'm just curious if anybody has figured out a way yet? It's driving me crazy!! (and when the F(*#$K did this "i'm going to go back like 2 words and autocorrect your "u <someword>" to "i <someword>" get added??....that's the most horrible piece of code I've ever seen in an app.

thanks! :)

Did you try this?

Settings -> System -> Language and input ->Swype -> Settings -> Uncheck "Next Word Prediction"

Re: S6!!! Swype Autocorrect option...S6!!! Galaxy S6!!! (s6)

Yup, it does not seem to have an effect. (or at least, not the desired one) :(

Re: S6!!! Swype Autocorrect option...S6!!! Galaxy S6!!! (s6)

Hmm, I've just given up on this until it's fixed...there is apparently no way to do this. Went back to the Samsung keyboard even though it doesn't handle punctuation shortcuts, which I miss. It's just too annoying to use Swype, and apparently my s6 edge came with a different version of Swype keyboard than everybody else. I am now starting to see some actual autocorrect disable posts around the interwebz for the s6, and their instructions still don't match the menus on my keyboard. Ah well, lame...

Re: S6!!! Swype Autocorrect option...S6!!! Galaxy S6!!! (s6)

same deal for the note edge. next word prediction is NOT autocorrect

Re: S6!!! Swype Autocorrect option...S6!!! Galaxy S6!!! (s6)

I didn't even try to use the included Swype since I bought it- I disabled the included and downloaded the one on the Store. Try that, and see if it is just the version that they loaded on the phone for you. Swype also usually pops up on newer installs that it recommends turning off the Android Spell checker when using Swype. Please note, I have not seen that yet on my s6, but saw it every time I would flash a rom on my M8 and installed Swype.

Re: S6!!! Swype Autocorrect option...S6!!! Galaxy S6!!! (s6)

Ok, I will try this, because the Samsung default it terrible also. I thought it was just a slightly different implementation of Swype (with an autocorrect that you can actually disable), but it's actually pretty terrible....swyping off just a single pixel or two can cause all sorts of mayhem with your typing. I'll download the one from the store and report back, I really hope it works because as it is now, I LOVE the s6 edge but the keyboard situation has been a major headache.

Re: S6!!! Swype Autocorrect option...S6!!! Galaxy S6!!! (s6)

Yes, that worked great. Sad that I need to pay for a decent keyboard, but uhh...it's 99 cents, I'll live. :)

Re: S6!!! Swype Autocorrect option...S6!!! Galaxy S6!!! (s6)

Well, ok...it's better but still this "u xxx" converted to "i xxx" thing occurs automatically, even with autocorrect off! Why is this even a feature? "u" is probably the most common shortcut ever in the history of texting and I can't believe it wants to automatically convert it to "i"...especially when it's like 2 words later! Since when does it autocorrect two word sets? Grr.r...

How to turn on and off autocorrect on Samsung Galaxy S6:

Turn on the Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge
Go to a screen that shows the keyboard
Near the left “Space Bar” select and hold the “Dictation Key”
Then select on the “Settings” gear option
Below the section that says “Smart Typing”, select on “Predictive Text” and disable it
Another option is to disable different settings like auto-capitalization and punctuation marks

I just transferred to a galaxy s6 active and didn't pay attention but every single one of my texts that say U.XXXXX turn into I xxxx and I don't catch it till I hit send Because I double check when I type the U and it does change the U to and I a few words later. That is so frustrating. I am using the swype keyboard that came with the phone. I guess I will download one if yours is working now. If you can respond after you have had it now a few weeks and let us know. Thanks.

Try to go to settings-Language and input-samsung keyboard- and turn predictive text off. I left auto spelling on as it is quite handy but it is up to you.

Hope this works for you.O:-)

That feature nearly caused me to throw my S6 out the window more than once! If you're still looking for a way to shut it off I found a way that worked for me. I still use Swype and I use the Samsung keyboard....

Settings> Language & Input> Samsung Keyboard> Auto Replace>>>>OFF!!

If ur still looking for a fix, I hope this works for u!

I finally found out how to do it!

Step 1
Settings> language and input> Samsung Keyboard> predictive text> turn on personalized data.

Step 2
Type in "****" or any swear word in your keyboard manually. Then click the check mark on the top left of the keyboard.

Step 3
you should now be able to swipe the curse word you checked off 👍

I think this is what you are looking for:

o to a screen that shows the keyboard
Near the left “Space Bar” select and hold the “Dictation Key”
Then select on the “Settings” gear option
Tap "Auto Replace" and turn that feature off.
Your predictive text will still display, but it just wont auto replace the word.

Not to pile-on another Galaxy 6 autocorrect problem, BUT . . . Has anyone figured out how to customize/edit auto-correct punctuation, and how to access/control the predictive text dictionary (assuming its the same for email and SMS). Just like the complaints about substituting an "i" for "u," my autocorrect constantly replaces a possessive-apostrophe with a quotation mark. For instance, Bob's becomes Bob"s. Even after 3+ manual corrections, it doesn't learn the punctuation pattern. Very annoying.

Any help appreciated!

I think I found it! in System -->language and input -->Samsung keyboard --> Predictitve text. Turn it off.
This is the setting in my old galaxy; they just moved it.
