Galaxy S6 totally dead after being turned upside down many times

I've been pulling invasive plants out of my local woods while carrying my Galaxy S6 in a pants pocket. The weed-pulling activity includes a lot of bending and stooping and standing back up again, so the phone has been turned upside down and then right-side-up many times.

On several of these occasions, I returned from the woods to find that the phone had turned itself off. Until today, it could be restarted after a little rest period. Today, it is totally dead. That is, the power switch does nothing. When I put it on a charger, there is no "charge" indicator on the screen. In fact, nothing I have tried so far gets anything to appear on the screen.

During these adventures in the woods, the phone has NOT gotten wet, or suffered any sharp blows, or any other trauma I can think of. On the occasions when it did recover, the battery was not dead. The only cause I can think of is the phone being repeatedly rotated on its axis. (During these times, the phone was turned on, and the "rotate screen" setting was enabled.)

Any ideas?

~ Thanks in advance

How long did you let it charge undisturbed before trying to power on? Let it sit for at least 6 hours, then press and hold Power for about 20 seconds to see if anything happens.

One possibility would be the the phone kept waking while in your pocket, and perhaps the random touches in your pocket activated something (like taking multiple pictures, or even taking a video). Enough of that activity might have been enough to drain the battery, and sometimes you need to let the battery charge for a little while before the phone can power on.

Do you remember if the phone was getting warm in your pocket? If so, then something might have caused it to overheat, which could also cause sudden battery drain (or worse, could have damaged a component).

mustang7757: It's the original battery as far as I know. I bought the phone "new" online just 6 months ago. Of course, "new" means not previously "used", but since the S6 model is five years old, presumably the phone and its battery had been aging on somebody's inventory shelf for many years. One more note about the battery: In the previous cases where the phone revived, as soon as I put it on the charger, the charging indicator came on, and the battery was nowhere near empty - the indicator showed something like 47% of the charge remaining.

I'm thinking battery issue, you can download this app to see battery health Accu battery

B. Diddy: In this latest case, I have had the phone on a wired charger overnight. I've tried a 20-second power button hold, and even a "hard reset" where you hold down several buttons at once. Nothing on the screen and no sounds.

No, I don't recall the phone getting hot in my pocket, but that might have gone unnoticed.

FYI, my local cell repair shop and I have co-decided that whatever the problem is with this beast, it's probably cheaper to replace it than to try to fix it. I just ordered a refurb of the same model from a website called "Back Market" for $85.

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my query.

Thanks for keeping us posted, hopefully everything works out with the one you ordered.
