Greetings all,

I put my S6 on the nightstand [wired] charger last night (like every night). The phone was on when I put it on the charger.

Woke up late and in a rush this morning because my phone alarm(s) did not go off. Looked over at my phone as was like wtf, why didn't the alarm(s) go off.

Anyway the green "fully charged" light was on, and the screen was blank. So I thought that's odd, may have just reset/turned off over night. Actually, I couldn't get the device to turn on.

I've tried the obvious -->

Tried Power for 30+ seconds
Tried Power + Volume Dn for 30+ seconds
Tried Power + Volume Up + Home for 30+ seconds
Even tried all buttons for 30+ seconds

I've been around the internet looking for redemption stories, but alas, the few I've run across end without solution, a repair of some sort, or a new phone.

Am I out of luck here? Anyone have anything else to try? I was wondering when this non-removable battery was going to bite me.

Thanks in advance,

Brian

Over lunch I had my unresponsive phone in my jacket pocket. Pulled it out to try the button routines again. There was some warmth to the phone, not hot, but warmth. I assume power dissipating out. While I had it out of my pocket I did notice over the half hour that the green light had gone off.

Back at work now, plugged in. No red charging light indicator, no response to any buttons. Doesn't feel warm like it's charging. My gut says 'SHE DEAD'.

At this point, all you can do is wait for the battery to die so it reboots after charging, or go to the fix it store.

Thanks for your advice Dano. Do you know if this is maybe just a new battery or piece of hardware?...or is this a "scrap-your-phone-out and get a new one" kind of problem?

I went from the s5 to the s7 because of the inability to hard reboot the s6. With the price of a used s7 around 300, that's the way I would go. If price is still an issue, an s5 is still a great phone which can be had for around 100.

Yeah I was leery, but was coming off of an S3 that was on it's last leg. Thanks for the advice. I'll see what the repair shop estimator says.

Just a follow up on this thread --

Had a repairman open up my s6 and try a new battery. Didn't solve my issue so it seems to be a hardware/board failure. Guess I'm outta luck.

Anyway, been rockin my clunky s3 in the meantime, but ordered a near-mint s7 off ebay for $239. Thanks all.

Hey guys volume down and power for 20 sec then go to reboot normaly

You da man.

Was just getting ready to go on an out of state hiking trip when my wife's phone did this. Not being super tech savvy, she was so worried that she was going to need to buy a new phone while i was away. 5 minutes of googling later...

Thanks a ton, bro

I'm having the exact same problem with my note 5. Woke up late, alarms didn't go off, unplug my phone, green charging light stays on, and nothing on the screen. Tried all the button combinations mentioned here, plugged it into a computer, but nothing, absolutely nothing.

Anything?

Hi welcome to AC!
Might be battery issue, should take to repair center to have a look and see if its worth being repaired.

Hi All. For those of you who may be wondering this is absolutely a thing and I'm so glad I found this thread because the exact same thing happened to me this morning.

Phone has been working fine. It is a 2018 and the battery is on the way out so doesn't last as long as when new but the phone was still working fine. I've never dropped it and the screen isn't cracked.
Connected it to the charger and went to sleep.
Woke up late, no alarms went off. Phone showing green LED only.
Try to power up, and it doesn't do anything. Green LED stays on.
Hold volume down and power. Green LED goes out. Phone doesn't power up.
Try all the other combinations including volume up, Bixby, Power. Doesn't power up.
I've tried lots of chargers but I don't have a wireless charger to try.
I've booked it in tomorrow for a replacement battery. They can hopefully tell me if that is a fix or if it's banjax.
I'll update when I have more information but in summary, yes this is a thing and none of the reset combinations fix it. The phone refuses to power up.
