deleted phonebook and retried - also sent individually and it says file not sent

Welcome to Android Central! Is this the factory installed car stereo, or an aftermarket unit? When you pair the phone to the car, look on the phone screen and see if it asks for permission to share contacts. Also, go to Settings>Bluetooth, tap the gear icon next to the car stereo, and make sure Contact Sharing is turned on.
