22 hours ago, I found my Galaxy S8+ battery level idled at 97% for about 20 minutes while it was still plugged in and the LED light had turned off. So I tried to disconnect the charger.

As soon as I touched the tip of the charger, I immediately felt the immense heat originated from the charger. I released it right away before I got burned. Since only the tip of the charger was toasting, the upper part of the phone became warm but not burning, I held on upper part of the phone against the table and pulled the charger so it disconnected with the phone.. As the charger was pulled away from the phone, I saw part of the plastic inside the connector had melted, and two black plastic strings were hanging on the USB Type-C port. I immediately turned the phone off so the Note 7 style explosion wouldn't happen to me.

Upon close inspection, anywhere, other the bottom metal part of the phone (where the headphone jack, Type-C port and speaker are), was getting uncomfortably warm. The bottom metal part of the phone was as hot as the tip of the charger.

Since I was using the Type-C charger from my Lumia 950, I thought the old charger was the reason. However, earlier when I asked a colleague who has a T-Mobile Galaxy S8, he said his S8 had the same problem and he already got a replacement phone from T-Mobile.

So I wonder if anyone else had or is having the same problem?

Mine hadn't gotten that hot but my phone did get warm once about two weeks ago. That sounds about as hot as my son's S6 had gotten when it decided to never turn on again and we had to get his replaced. With that one within a minute of plugging it in to charge when the screen would not come on it became roasting hot like you described. With my eight plus I don't recall the charger itself becoming hot it was just the screen on the s8plus to its touch

Rather than pull the charger out, unplug from the wall and let cool before removing tip. Also, while my phone will warms noticeably when wireless charging but is cool when charging via cable. I'd be interested in heat gun reading from stated distances when people talk about heating.

This. My S8 can get fairly warm when wirelessly charging, but I haven't noticed heat from plugged charging yet.

Thank you for the heads up and I hope you get it figured out soon.

Yep my s8+ does get warm while charging but i blame fast charging for that (in other words nothing weird happening to me yet)i don't usually touch the charger though cause that thing's always pretty warm when charging the phone xD.
