Galaxy S9+ Black Crush and Gradient Banding Issues

cause when playing HDR video, the phone is in HDR mode, you can find that the screen brightness is not adjustable, and the white looks like more yellow. But the screenshoot in the Gallery is not in HDR mode.
So is the suggestion it's software?

Well I still don't know what to do, I gave my phone back and I'm going get a new one in 2 or 3 days the thing is I'm pretty sure that it's going to have the same issue, and I still struggle a bit to replicate the problem and explaining on the store the problem, 1st time o went there he pretty much was saying the effects o was seeing in videos was normal, so I don't know how to proper explain this.

I guess I need to put 2 photos side by side, https://forums.androidcentral.com/s...us-black-crush-gradient-banding-issues-5.html the ones on this post and show to them? If I get this again I want my money back it's simply horrible quality

I think it's android 8.0 problem, pixel 2 also have black crush issue.

It's not an Oreo issue cause the normal S9 doesn't suffer from black crush and banding. My phone doesn't show any black crush or banding when playing the Swordsmith video in HDR but shows the crush and banding in any other HDR video in YouTube and the other apps. Solving a murder would have been easier than trying to find out what's the cause for S9+'s problem.

I got a new phone. Its improved but definitely still there.

I just watched a video in daylight but the sky was pitch black and I saw the crushing issue. So its not only a problem in low light settings.

So it is Oreo lol

I wonder if it's Oreo as well. How come the Note 8 doesn't have this issue? Or any other previous Samsung phone?

And how have we determined that no S9 displays have this issue when most here bought the S9 plus?

I'm just trying to piece this together. I'm late to this discussion.

My S9 has the black crush, but not so much the gradient banding. Almost impossible to watch most videos with darker lighting.

I've the same black crush issues with Samsung s9 plus... I got a replacement device from Xfinity and it shows the same issue. See the pictures at https://photos.app.goo.gl/NfCE58Wav5uWgVtq2

I had a tough time explaining this issue to sales team at xfinity store... and they were very hard on me as they dont see the issue.. had a tough time :(

I went to local samsung support (UBREAKIFIX). They're unaware of this issue and none of their tests catch it but agreed its showing up in low light environment.

Is samsung working on this? Any new patch is expected? I texted samsung support over FB, they sent me a feedback which will be sent to Dev team (at least thats what i was told), but no response yet.

Mine was the same in the power off menu before the ARCC update but now that issue is gone there. Still experiencing it everywhere else though.

Well, and that's it,I'm out of this phone, the hell with it.

A expensive phone like this having this type of problems is just ridiculous and laughable!!! I would admit this on a 300€ phone (I wouldn't actually) , after the S8 fiasco with the pinkish/reddish screens that Samsung says its "normal on this type of screens", I did not expect another problem with the screens.

So far problems with this highly expensive phone:

  • Silence Calls for a few seconds , you can't hear them but they can hear you clearly. (I had this with mine)
  • Dropped calls , losing calls for no reason. (I didn't have this issue, that i was aware)
  • Dead zones on the screens (I didn't have this issue, that i was aware)
  • Horrible glare on some photos because of the angles on the Cameras (I didn't even had time to test it, had the phone 2 days and then i asked for a new one)
  • Horrible dark crushing on the blacks. (I had this with mine)

So I'm done with the phone, got all my money back today. Good riddance. Waiting for the next flagship, or till this issue is fixed by software updates (If it's even software).

I wont be getting a new Samsung phone on release few months, i like the brand , but this it's just shameful. My 3year old S6+ is still here for the curves.

Good luck to the ones that have to stay with the phone, and hope it's just a software problem
