OK, so I downloaded the Magicplan app, because I need to measure my apartment. The app's playstore page says it only runs correctly if there is a "full gyroscope" on the device, and suggests installing Android Sensor Box to check.
According to Sensor Box, all's good with the gyroscope, I think. When I tap "gyroscope" here's a sort of cube-graphic and this will rotate after a fashion as I move or rotate the device, although I'm not sure it's doing so correctly on all three axes. It's difficult to tell, though, and any apparent deficiency here may be merely a display or calibration issue.
More unsettling is what happens when I use the orientation sensor tool, only one of the three spirit levels works.
If I hold the phone horizontally, the spirit level near the left margin in this picture works as expected, but the others don't. It's not that the bubbles don't move at all, they do. But instead of rolling around the "viewfinders" as they should, they'll move a tiny bit, and then jump instantaneously to the opposite side of the viewfinder. So, for example, in the circular spirit level I can't get the bubble into the target circle or anywhere near it.
I wouldn't be bothering with any of this, but MagicPlan doesn't want to calibrate and I was thinking it might be related.
FTR I'm running CyanogenMod 11 on my E4GT.
