Galaxy tab 2 not recognised

Hello all, I am having a Samsung galaxy tab 2 bought in January 2013. The device is not being recognised on windows 8.1 software on my hp laptop. I even downloaded the concerned kies software, but still the same problem. Anyone with a solution. thanks in advance
