Galaxy Tab 3 - Won't Charge

I read the different solutions here - toothpicks to poke in the usb charging port and blowing into the port, being two of them.

I thought like most of the people here it was a matter of cleaning the contacts but this did not work. When I looked into the jack and the usb port on the Tab, I saw a small platelet inside and the hole in the jack was for inserting this platelet. I then thought it might be the contacts were not aligned properly because I saw the battery charging icon going on and off, which meant contact was unstable.

So, I used the toothpick "trick" again but not to clean the contacts. I pushed the toothpick "under" the platelet to force it gently to bend upwards. I had noticed before this that the platelet seemed to be bent slightly downwards and not properly centered. I nudged the toothpick inwards gently applying a bit more pressure with each tiny push. The platelet slowly move upwards and looked more centered.

I reconnected the usb charging line. It worked! The normal charging icon with the blue indicator moving up and down reappeared and I could even boot up the Tab.

This misalignment problem often happens with jacks that get pushed in and pulled out frequently. As the contacts get more and more bent, they cannot connect and only intermittent or even no current gets through. This happens with headphone sockets too over time.

The "up" side of the usb port is the curved edge. The "bottom" is the flat edge. So, push gently between the flat edge and the platelet so that the contacts on the "up" side get moved up slightly and this makes the contacts between the platelet and the usb cable jack tighter and more secure.

So, the toothpick solution is more likely moving and improving the contacts rather than actually cleaning them, though, of course, dirt and dust can obstruct contact too. I tried blowing too but this did not work for me, though it works for some other Tabs.

I'm glad I came here to read the different solutions that helped helped light that little bulb in my head. Thanks!

Sometimes i got same problem as you specially if i go under 10% battery capasity. But my main problem is that it takes 8 hours to fully charge my galaxy tab3 and if i play a game on it even i am at 100% with charger in, i am losing power!

I just say wtf, how can you lose battery power while you are charging it.

Samsung is crap, apple for me in the future for sure!

Well I have a HUGE problem I bought a NEW. BRAND NEW battery and its already having this problem. I charge ita at least at 20%.......so it doesn't die
but I think I know the problem I bought a new one that was lite and the charger must be something different if not I read that its hot maybe because I have been charging it over night but if its that put tour charger in a ziploc bag nd put in a frezer colse it really good though

The charger for my Galaxy S4 phone will charge my Tab 3 7", even from very dead. But the @#%@# tablet will still suck down the charge while supposedly turned off.

My 7 year old daughter misplaced her Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite and after 2 weeks it turned up with a dead battery and would not charge. Decided to try the DIY fix and after managing to get the back off but to my dismay the inside was different to that shown in the video. Finally figured out how to disconnect the battery (you need to lift the tab over the terminal and then prise out the cable), plugged in the charger and then reconnected the battery. Tablet is now charging and seems to be working fine. The only problem is when the tablet is turned off and charging, ordinarily you would see the battery indicator when you press the home button, this has been replaced by a blank screen with vertical lines. I'm just wondering if i shorted something when i had the cover off.
Anyway tablet is working/charging, so small price to pay.
This seems to be an ongoing problem with Samsung tablets, and Samsung seem to be in denial, judging by the comments on this and other forums.
Will definetly not be buying another Samsung tablet.
Thanks for the help.

I think the LCD cable might be loose, try to disconnect and reconnect the LCD cable, make sure the line on cable aligned with the one on main board.
Left side is touchscreen cable, right side is the LCD cable that you need to reconnect it ,

I have disconnected the battery cable several times and it's still not working. Just a picture of colorless battery blinks a minute or so and then stops. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Disconnect won't solve the problem if one of these is defective: charger, USB cable. or USB port or battery or battery connector.
Use this tool to find out which one is the source of problem:
USB current and voltage tester | eBay
Swap know working charger and USB cable first. Tab 3 has different models and sizes, I have no idea which one you have, so I cannot make further suggestion. Tab 3 7.0 , USB port soldered to main board, other tab 3. USB port is on flex cable and easily replace.
I see many users have this problem and it's just a bad cable but they have no idea where is the problem. Use the tool I mention to avoid of guessing.
There are many factors causing not charging, nobody can give you specific answer for many unknowns. Tab 3 7.0 , charging problem sometimes can fix by just a simple firmware update.

Hi all,

New here just looking and hoping for some support for my Galaxy Tab 3 which all of a sudden will not charge.

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

When plugged in and not turned on it shows the symbol (like it's refreshing to find battery level) and then normally obviously the battery shows up displaying the level of my charge, but on my tab it doesn't the screen goes black and nothing happens. Then when the tab is turned on an i plug it in nothing happens screen doesn't brighten nor does it acknowledge it's charging.

It has worked fine until i tried to charge it this evening, no indication before that anything is wrong. I've tried to reset it by holding the power key and volume key but nothing, just restarts and still won't charge.

Has anyone else had this problem or know of anyway to resolve it.

Again any help you could provide would be appreciated, thanks for you time.

What model is your tab 3 ? Tab 3 has different models and sizes, it's difficult to help if nobody knows exactly your model.

my phone has stooped suddenly ...so i hold down the power key so no use and kept it on charge for about 8 hours also no use ...please if u have the solution reply on me and thanks:)

My son's SM-T210 went dead during xmas holidays when we were out of home. Fortunately I found this forum and having battery disconnected for one minute or so fixed the problem. The voltage (2.66 V without load) was extreme low for a Li-Ion battery... Normally 2.7 V is considered to be cut-off point and in 2.4 V there is permanent damage to cell.

I didn't try power button trick before opening the back case of tab :(
