galaxy tab 3

how long should one charge a new galaxy tab 3 for the 1st time? The start guide doesn't stipulate

Welcome to Android Central! With modern lithium batteries, you should just charge it until it's at 100%, then use it normally. Some people might suggest keeping it on the charger for another hour or so after it hits 100%, which is fine--but you don't have to charge it for 8 hours or anything like that.

Do not kill the battery!!!! If you want let it go to 30% that's fine but no lower than 10% or it might not boot up once it powers off. For me I was lucky I let it die 4 times and it always said it had some % left when put on charge with the tablet was off, so I guess its different for every tablet.

That's a good tip. In general, try to recharge the battery once it gets down to 30-40%. Don't habitually let it go down to the 10% range or let it die--that might reduce the overall lifespan of the battery.
