Just got an email from Sprint offering premier customers the tab for $400 before everyone else can get it. 29.99/data plan. I'm wondering if that's in addition to the data plan I already have for my Epic 4g or if it's a separate charge. Anyone know?

I don't know if they are selling it wifi only. I will have to defer to someone else on that. I know that you won't get it for the 399 price though.

I guess I'm wondering this: if I go with the no-contract version for $600, does that mean I don't pay the per month data charge but still get the 3G connectivity?

You are correct. In other news, just got off the phone with the Sprint peeps. Went ahead and ordered one. Couldn't resist. Can't wait!

Hmm, the $400 is a bit on the high side but I would buy it at that price. However, the data plans are outrageous. I already have a data plan on my Epic! I would rather get a WiFi only model and use my Epic as a hotspot. However, a $600 price tag is too high. I would opt for the iPad, if I was going to pay that much. I guess I'll continue using my Epic and Tethering it to my NetBook. I'm sure prices will come down and maybe someone will even come out with something better. I still like the idea of the HP tablet with a dual boot capability any way. I'll just wait and see what else comes along.

I had an existing data plan through Sprint on my usb 3g modem. Walked into Sprint yesterday, bought the Galaxy Tab for $599 and xfer'd my data plan to it. So I now have the GT with a 5gb monthly limit and unlimited sms/mms.

Loving it so far.

Are you sure that you have unlimited sms for free? I tried sending and receiving text messages on my data plan and was charged for each one...

I'm sorry... I was referring to Dougvan's post regarding placing the Galaxy Tab on a plan other than the new tablet plan and having unlimited messaging. I know the new plans (like yours) have it included, but I didn't think a pre-existing plan (like Dougvan's) would...

Sprint converted my existing data plan to a GT plan when I purchased it. Zero hassle and no fee.

I misunderstood what you were saying... I thought that you were able to use a regular data plan instead of the new Tablet plan on the device. Thanks for clearing this up!
