Galaxy Tab series get ready for ICS. see here

I really appreciate it when people post info like this and I thank you. However, I find this article annoying more than anything. I came from the Apple world where updates come when they say they come..... Or don't say anything at all.
Samsung announced that updates were starting to roll out on May 2 for a whole list of devices. It's June 19. Still no update. I semi sort of understand if it was a Rogers Tab but it's a pure Samsung Wifi tab. Why the delay?

They need to be a bit more careful about how they make their announcements. I didn't expect to be waiting this long given their communication. It makes me think twice about getting another Samsung tablet.

My 2 cents.

It would be nice. I like my tablet and am pleased with it. I will wait patiently for the updates. Mine is working fine.

Does that mean that Cyanogenmod 9 will be fully functional after this ICS release since it'll have the complete source code to use? Or should I unroot (I'm using Overcome now) and then upload the official ICS release? Is the ICS release better/worse than Cyanogenmod 9? I'm obviously confused

I just installed the new ICS leak build on my Droid Bionic and it is worlds better! I cannot wait for the G tab release!

It will be nice to have my Galaxy on ICS.. just got the Asus TF300T (it's on 4.0.3)... very nice tablet, but the best part... The real Google Chrome browser is most excellent on a tablet... but sadly of course it's only available for ICS. My goodness! (even the fruit fanboys get Chrome for the fruit OS... something not fair about  )

The 7.7 version in Austria and Germany have begun receiving their update, so we can only hope that the 10.1 Wifi American update isn't too far behind.

It's funny how the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is identical hardware in almost every way, except for a SD slot and a few other minor upgrades. The CPU, wifi, amount of ram, storage space, screen etc... are all the same from what I can see.

This begs me to ask, how hard is it to use the ICS from the Galaxy Tab 2 on the original Galaxy Tab?

Unless Samsung is hoping that all of us that bought the original Tab look at the 2 as a newer upgraded model, and run to the store to buy it that is.

I think it's a combination of them wanting to sell more hardware and if them just not being too good at preparing a download that doesn't just wipe it clean. They may be stumped by that detail...

the galaxy tab 2 isn't Tegra 2 is it?

Samsung has amazing hardware and produce amazing products. But the software updates to keep those products running better and better is their biggest downfall by far.

You are wrong here. Tab 2 is almost a strict DOWNgrade from Tab 10.1. Yes, the SD slot is great and that is about all that is new.

CPU is the same Tegra 2, HOWEVER, when running a speed check test, the Tab2 is SLOWER.
The LED for camera flash is gone.
The tablet is heavier and bulkier, the thickness increased by 1/4.
The battery life is SHORTER for Tab 2.
etc etc.

Samsung sac'ed a lot of functionality for its tablet line in order to lower their price to avoid competition from Apple.

Here's the summary from Engadget:
"Although the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is the clear successor to the original, it's hardly an upgrade. It's not materially better than the OG version -- in fact, it's worse in almost every way -- and now Samsung finds itself in a market where it can't compete as effectively as it used to. "

If you find somewhere selling the original tab and tab 2 at the same price, grab the ORIGINAL!
