Google Assistant Go

Hi I recently bought an xGody x32 for my dad, thinking he could use the hey Google feature, as he is partially blind, I've bought previous big button phones and they just don't last, trying a different approach.

However it only seems to have the lighter version Google assistant go, which seems to be as much use as a chocolate fire guard, I've tried downloading the proper assistant, but it doesn't support it.

If anyone knows of a work around that would be great, just need a way, to access contacts through a voice command, EG another app which could do this, or need to send the phone back, lastly if I do send it back, is there any cheap budget phones that would definitely support the full hey Google function,Thanks.

The main reason a phone would come with a lighter "Go" version of a Google app would be if it were running the stripped-down Android Go. From what I can find on the web, that phone should be running full Android, but for these more obscure manufacturers, the specs on the web might not be entirely accurate. Are you able to share a screenshot of the About Phone menu in the system settings?

That looks like the full Android 14. Are you searching for Google Assistant or Gemini? Google is phasing out Google Assistant in favor of Gemini, so see if you can install Gemini.

Hi thanks yes Google assistant, it's definitely running the light version and won't support the full version, I consulted chrome AI and it says it could be running a lighter version in order for the operating system to run smooth, but chrome AI changes it's mind like the weather.
So not a definite answer 😂 all I really need is my dad to be able to make calls without pressing too many buttons, and thought this was the best option, if there is a way of doing this just through the mobile or android without an app, using a voice command that would be helpful, Thanks.

Does your father generally make calls to the same numbers? If so, you could just set up a bunch of Direct Dial widgets for those numbers (kind of like a speed dial feature right on the homescreen).

Hi thanks I think that might just confuse, him, something not quite right about this xGody x32, I did a search on play, for Google Gemini, assuming that's the one your talking about, and my option was to install Microsoft copilot, what that's got to do with Gemini I haven't a clue.

Yet on my ancient pocophone 1, I had the option to install Google Gemini AI, things seem restricted on this phone, I think it will be getting returned,
Also tried a different approach courtesy of a Google search, to access settings, then accessibility, and look for voice and no sign of that either, all the microphone icon lets me do is search the internet, but if I give a command like call Joe blogs, it's looking it up on the net, phones a let down.

Yeah, this is the problem with off-brands like XGODY -- you can never be sure if they're telling the truth about their specs, and support is pretty minimal. There's also increased risk of hardware or software glitches due to poorer quality control.

I would agree with returning the phone, and sticking with more reputable brands.
