gallery app versus a File Manager

Does the Gallery app hold photos and documents on the internal storage? On my previous phone, I set things up so that all photos and files went to a File Manager that was connected to my external storage card. I am trying to do the same thing here. But it appears that whatever content I have in the File Manager and my external storage card is actually duplicated in the Gallery app. I don't want redundancy. So how do I get the photos and files to not be saved in Gallery?

In the camera app settings you can choose default location to sd card

Gallery apps aren't storage locations -- think of them as a viewer for any image stored anywhere on the phone's storage. (File managers aren't storage locations either). Don't worry, you're not duplicating the actual photo files.

I wasn't aware of that. That explains why when I remove something from either location, it removes it from the other. Hmm. Thanks B. Diddy. mustang thanks too.
