Is anyone else having a problem with the Gallery closing within seconds after opening? Please Help!

I am having the same issue, started last night... It worked fine every time until I used camera360 (?) to take a piture or two, and now my gallery just closes after a half second of trying to open...

I've un-installed the camera360... i've powerred off and pulled the battery multiple times... Nothing fixes it....

If I open it up through the built in camera app, it opens up without issue, and I can look through all the pics/video...

Also it works if I try to change the wallpaper... Just doesn't work if I open it on it's own... Would be sad if I have to factory reset and reload all my apps and such...

From another forum, but it might be your problem:

I posted this on another forum, but it may apply to your rebooting problem, you might want to test if it's your sd card before doing the Factory Data Reset:

A bad file/filesystem on your sd card can also cause a boatload of problems on a device, certainly everything the OP has described.

If you have a spare sd card, put it in your phone and the problems should go away if something on your original card was not right. If you don't have a spare, take the sd card out of the phone and test it without the memory card.

If it is the card causing the problems, transfer the contents of your card to your PC and reformat the card in the phone. Then move only essential files and folders back to the card and test for a while. Repeat in small batches until you have found the bad file or all of the files/folders that you want are back on the card. If you don't find a bad file, don't worry, it was probably something wrong with the filesystem (FAT, File Allocation Table) that was causing your device's problems, the formatting of the card would fix that.

you might be right. i just recently instered a 32gb card, but i didnt format it (silly me). I was also having issues with Gallery opening up. it would open and then immediately close. So i popped in my old card, it works fine now. Thanks for the tip. I will format the 32gb when i get home. appreciate it.

Makes sense, I also had Gallery problems (pics didn't show up) when I had to reformat my card.

Glad it helped. :)

This looks really interesting, will try tonight when I get back to my phone...

Thanks...

Trying it now. Remove all files from sd card on to computer >install it back into phone> format it on phone> remove from phone> then reinstall all files back> install sd back into phone > then crossing fingers.... Let know if it works

Have you thought about your SD card being overloaded? When there's that much data, takes a while to sort/find things. Photos and videos are pretty large files.

I did this as well last night... Evreything cleared up wonderfully... Thank you all for your help with this...

One weird thing, does the formatting of the SD card give an acknowledgement indication to anyone? I hit the format SD card button (after I had unmounted) and I got no confirmation that it did anything, thought I had messed something up, but it looks like it did wipe the card and I guess format it... Just curious that there is no "warm feely" visual to tell me it worked...

I am having a similar problem, but I think it may be more an issue with Gallery than the SDCard. I can open the images just fine using Root Explorer, but gallery fails every time. I am going to try the above idea and will report back.

I had this problem too, I did not want to copy all my files off my card to my computer so I unmounted the card in the seetings, powered off, pulled out the sd card, reinserted, powered up and it cleared up the problem. I also started using an alternative galary application now too, its the one from the Fascinate. It can be found in the apps section of this site.

ughhh looks like I spoke to soon. Gallery opens, but it now has doubled all my pictures! I went from 600 to 1200> doubles of everything. Is there another way to either use another app as my default pic app or to fix this? It is a PITA! ThxS!

Sounds like you may have a bug on your sd card and may need to copy your important files to your computer and format it then copy them back. Here is a link to an alternative galary you can use but I am sure you can search this site and XDA for a few others if you do not like this one. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728303 t has a great sharing menu and always you to hold each corner of a picture folder and it will scroll, kind of hard to explain but it works.
