Gaming on the 2013 vs 2012?

As I said on tmy thread in the Nexus 2012 section, thinking of upgrading to the 2013 model. A concern was raised about wether or not the 2013 can run all my games.

Can the 2013 run these games?

Grand Theft Auto series
Gangstar Vegas
Modern Combat 4
Order & Chaos Online
Bards Tale HD
Mass Effect Infiltrator
Ravensword
Xcom Enemy Unknown

Absolutely! This game runs great and it's well worth the $10. Just be aware that because it's so processor/graphics intensive, you'll be lucky to get 4 hours of continuous play before needing to charge it. I even plugged my battery pack in to charge it and it couldn't keep up (i.e. the N7 continued to lose charge).

Also note that the tablet got quite warm (as does my Galaxy S3) when playing for any length of time.

I'd expect Bard's Tale to play without issue (I have it; just haven't loaded it yet). Can't comment on the others.

BTW, judging by the Google Play Store comments Baldur's Gate Enhanced: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...dog.baldursgateenhancededition&token=T6f7IpHb is supposed to run well. I haven't plunked down the $10 for it yet.

Edit: I loaded up Bard's Tale using the HD assets and it played fine.

Bards Tale HD, Asphalt 8, MC 4 and more run great on my Tab 3 7.0 LTE, the Nexus 7 2013 will run those games at a higher resolution about as fluently also. Difference being battery life, N7 can run dry in four hours the 7.0 LTE trends upwards of six hours gaming. Because the N7 *is* more powerful and runs at a higher DPI.

Other thoughts, you can play a number of PC version games from gog.com using an emulator. Pretty much all the classics from Black Isle for example, lots of people playing Fallout 2 out there. There's also another emulator that loads old videogame .WAD files so you can play them. And the PS1 emulator, the GBA emulator, the PSP emulator and actual ported PSP games....it goes on and on.

I decided to pick up another 2012 32gb model (the killer on the 2013 model was it only had 16gb. Both were on sale for $149.99). Got to return it tomorrow though as the screen has a bad yellow tint to it. My original 2012 unit has crisp bright whites but this new one is just terribly yellow.

Just so you know, the 2013 N7 can run all the games the 2012 runs (as long as they aren't Tegra-exclusive games). If a game is Tegra-optimized (but not exclusive), then you may see more textures or special effects on the 2012 N7 compared to the 2013, but the difference is fairly subtle.

If the store had the 32gb 2013 for the same price I would have gone that route. I get close to running out of space on the 32gb quite a lot, a 16gb would probably drive me nuts, especially with a lot of games being 2gb to 4gb these days. I really don't know what to do. Deal with a lot less storage or stick with a tablet that worked great for me for a year then developed crippling issues.

Which emulator is that please? Any pointers on moving the content to the N7?

I know Modern Combat 4, Bards Tale and Ravensword and they all look and play MUCH better on the 2013 model. I'd say the frame rate is at leat 2-3 times higher. The Tegra 3 is a very old chip by now and will struggle with most modern games.

There is gDosBox. Never tested the app myself, but the original PC version of the emulator is great.

Several games have tutorials in their subforuma. The most common used application is DOSbox Turbo. However for Android there should also be this app that's very similar to SCUMMVM for PC to run Lucasarts games. A few seconds on Google and you'll find installation walkthroughs all over.

Sadly GoG lost sales rights for the Fallout franchise but I secured mine before the Bethesda/Zenimax mess finished up. Now it is on Steam and probably all messed up. Games on Steam so very seldomly get any actual modern hardware compatibility, I had to patch most of my retro stuff on Steam.

I should do something inadvisable like try to get Mechwarrior 2 installed.
