Gave Up the Genx

Such a wide range of experiences from poor gps, data drops, crashing apps and such, to ppl having no issues whatsoever. Kinda disconcerting. Makes you wonder about samsungs quality control.

Glad I have one that has no problems at all. Maybe demand an exchange till you find one that is all good. There are out there!

Wow, thanks for all the replies! :)

To answer questions/comments that were brought up in the thread..

It is possible I may have had a lemon. I did think about exchanging it for the same phone, but VZW said I could only do it once...and I couldn't risk it.

Yes, I ported my number and would not change it (have had the same number for 10+ years!). No issues with this so far with the Rezound (fingers crossed).

The ICS is awesome and I did hate giving it up, but I hated not having a working phone more. ;) Hopefully, the Rezound will get the ICS soon (fingers/toes crossed!).

I had dead spots/dropped calls/dropped reception in areas I normally even had reception with Sprint. So far, on the HTC Rezound, reception is awesome. I mean...I ran a speed test on the Rezound with Wifi on and got the expected Wifi speeds I pay for (between 17-22 down/3-4 up); then I turned Wifi off and ran the speed test on 4G alone and got 32 down/10 up! I mean, how is it faster than my Wifi...?! But I love that!! I only hope that will hold true from now on.

My speaker made others and me sound muffled, like we had our hand over the speaker. That was worrisome.

Those who also have the "System Turorial" under Settings>About Phone...I read somewhere that it's a bug? Not sure how it affects the function of the phone, but once the tech support person had me factory reset my phone, that option was GONE. Not sure what that is...

As I said, the Gnex is a beautiful, impressive phone in many respects. I really wanted to keep it, but given my poor reception history with Samsung, my data issues with Sprint, and 3 months of phone horrors, to switching to a new provider and getting data issues on a brand new phone again...I just couldn't take it.

I am jealous of those of you whose Gnex works like a charm, though. Hope you enjoy your gorgeous device! :)

It would be nice to know what version O/S you had. When I got my G-Nex, it was version 4.01. Within an hour a notice came in to update to version 4.02.
I have only a few problems with my phone. Some random reboots, and I had to teach myself a new way to hold the phone as whenever I touched the power button to wake the unit up or put it to sleep, I also was pushing the volume button.
Yeah, the speaker is a bit week, but Volume plus fixes that.

One thing to remember, the G-Nex is a new phone on a new O/S. We are early adopters.
It sounds like you don't want to be an early adopter. You want a phone that works. (iPhone):-!

All of these threads about the bugs make me feel incredibly lucky that I got a Nexus that worked correctly from the start. Bought it on release day and it's been working fine ever since. I have not had loss of data, reception issues, or call quality issues. I've never had the random reset that some users complain of either. It does seem like there are more lemons out there than properly functioning phones and something is wrong with that.

I would be leery of purchasing another Samsung phone the way things are going, but I hope my Gnex will continue to work properly for the next 2 years.

It came pre-installed with the 4.0.2.

Yes, being an early adopter is a risk, but given Samsung's obvious (to me) quality control issues with all the "lemons" out there, I couldn't risk more of the same. I did have the iPhone 4S for 2 days on Sprint; it was nice, aside from it being a 3G-only phone (and Sprint's data issues). But I've always preferred the Android over the iOS, and only bought the iPhone out of desperation to get a working phone. Glad to be back on an Android device. :)

Yes, I have not had good luck with Samsung, though they make beautiful looking phones. You are lucky to get a good Gnex. Enjoy it. :)

Mine has the best reception of any phone I've ever had on VZW. Every other device has shown "searching for signal" at my office but not the G-Nex.

Sounds like you had a ratty phone and then made the inexplicable leap that they all suck. No reception, no data=defect. If all these had no reception no one would buy and keep it.

Indeed... one or two or even a hundred bad ones doesn't mean the whole slew is bad.

Enjoy your rezound. My wife has it, good phone.

I probably would have done the same in your exact situation. I too have a release day nexus that rocks and has no issues with reception. Although weirdly enough it did for the first few days which almost made me return it for the rezound but it kind had a miraculous turn around about day 3 and has been rocking ever since. I go to areas where I always got searching at least every now and then on old phones and have yet to have my nexus do the same even when trying to make it lol. I also used to have that annoying no sim card restart error for about a week and then I took it out and activated my old thunderbolt with it and then put it back in my nexus and no problems since!

If I knew that HTC would support the rezound for more than a year, I would've stuck with it. To me, it was the better phone. But I know the gnex will last me 2 years and actually get updates from Google, so I had to weigh the options. I'm very happy with the GN. The rezound just was built better.

No reception issues here. The speaker could be better, sure (I came from a Razr and that speaker was amazing) but it's light years better than the speaker on the Sprint Nexus S 4G.

I hear you...if my 2+ hours on the phone with tech support had worked out, I'd have kept the phone. As it was, it meant exchanging it and who knows how the other one would have turned out...so, I had to make a choice.

Why do you think HTC won't support the phone beyond a year? This is my first HTC phone, ever, so I know little about their update history.

Sounds like a lot of people are anxious to get 4.0.3 in their hands. It's a brand new version of Android and it's in its infancy. It's going to be rocky at first. I'm not giving up on my Gnex.

...
I also have a Bionic and IMO the GNex is a much sweeter phone, the only thing I miss is being able to do HDMI out to my TV which isn't that big of a deal cuz I can use my XoomForums for that. ...

Have you tried a MHL adapter?

Are you sure about that? I was under the impression that you could exchange for same phone that has issues/problems unlimited times.
Only when changing to a different phone you could do it only once. Maybe you should clarify with VZ. But I guess kinda late now that you made your ONE change to a different phone. I could be wrong though.

Because they will be focused on the next phones they release. As time goes on, the rezound will be forgotten by htc and devs alike, but like the og droid living long past official updates, the nexus will live on through jelly beans, even when the next nexus is released. It's an investment, rather than a purchase.
