Installed Gingerbread manually to stock Froyo 2.3.340 yesterday. Re-installed LPP and, so far, it's working OK. Have had only a few issues and would appreciate any input that others have noticed and/or fixed...

1 - I can't find a particular app on Market using its search-- get message there's no app by that name -- BUT I can find it using my laptop and the Market website. This only happened (so far) for one specific app. Otherwise Market has behaved normally.

2 - My Gmail account sync is off somehow. When I go into Accounts > my Gmail account > all boxes are checked to sync. But, if I do menu, it says "Cancel sync" ... but it's not in the process of syncing. I tried to uncheck and re-check the boxes, but nothing happened.

3 -- I have that perpetual "sync" icon in the notification panel. Is this something that might be related to #2?

3 - Also probably related to #2 is that some of my contacts are missing from the X list, yet they are in my laptop Gmail contacts.

And, yes, I've been diligent about doing periodic battery pulls during the re-installation of apps.

*YAY!* Smileys in text messages transmit as genuine smileys!!!

In order to get rid of the persistent syncing icon, you have to boot the phone into recovery and do a factory wipe/reset. This may clear up 2 and 3 but 3 for certain.

The keyboard is laggy, the screen brightness fluctuates when moving within screens and back out. Very evident in Gmail.

I think you may be mistaking the gray background of your email list with the white background of an individual email. There is no brightness fluctuation.

I'd totally take a screenshot to prove it but I don't have root and I don't want to put forth the effort to get root at the moment.

oh, and the keyboard seems fine to me.

Yes, for me there is. If you go into a message then hit back hard key you will see a slight brightness increase after 1 second or so. It happens in the the settings menus when you back out of a screen. The keyboard lag has been reported many times.

Well that's interesting... um... when you updated did you do the factory reset or no? (just wondering)

I believe jrummy has a app to fix the market here's a link for the app. http://db.tt/0p5QrJo

Thank you for your help. I notice this link is a download ... is there any info on what the app does or what it's designed to do? I noticed that some with similar names are aimed at specific phones or a rooted phone, neither of which applies in my situation.

Yeah, many times. SBFed, wiped, etc. etc. I think most people don't notice it becuase its slight. I use gmail a lot and it drives me nuts. Outdoors you can't see it.

if you go into the display settings and turn the animations off does your screen still flicker when moving in and out?

...I wouldn't count the white background screen that loads just prior to Gmail fully loading

Yes, still does it with animations turned off. It's as if it loads the screen then remembers a certain level and goes to that level.

Well, poop. I'm out of ideas.

Thanks for the help. It happened on both leaks.

It happens about every 3 transitions. When you go into a menu then back I can get it to happen after a couple tries. Strange. Froyo is perfect.

OK - I did a clear cache, factory reset and reboot and this took care of most of my issues. BTW - before I did that, I backed up my LPP settings in LPP's preferences (thank goodness - it worked!)

Discovered in the process that perpetual sync icon in the notification bar is the X's Gmail account syncing with cloud Google/Gmail. The sync icon appears as soon as you authorize your Gmail account to do "restore" sync. And, the icon *eventually* disappears (AFTER a factory reset/reload) when all four accounts are synced (INCLUDING the new category BOOKS - a Google app you cannot delete).

I'm not sure why this wouldn't take care of itself after a regular install, but apparently - in my case, anyway - Books sync wasn't checked at the first install. After the reboot, etc., it WAS checked (and not by me) when all the basic stuff was running through at launch.

So, bottom line, the issue for all my problems above (except the one disappearing market app) was the initial sync between my X and Gmail/Google info. It hung up for some reason.

Maybe someone can figure this out or perhaps it will be fixed in the official OTA.

Here's one that is driving me nuts (stock OTA GB leak from the 12th, unrooted):

-Go into contacts app
-Hit the big green + in the top right corner OR hit "menu" then "Add contact"
-"Choose an account to store new contacts" comes up. No matter if I choose Google or Backup Assistant AND tick "Remember this choice" this dang dialog box still comes up every time I add a new contact. It will NOT remember its settings!

Since I add more contacts directly into my DX than I do via Gmail via browser, this gets tedious after a while. Is my only solution to do a hard reset and skip the Backup Assistant sign-in at startup?

Note: I sync all of my contacts to Google, of course. I just made the mistake to sign into Backup Asisstant in my zeal to try out the new leak 2 days ago.

I think it might just be you or your phone. Just tried doing exactly as you said, and the brightness never changed.

Huh. That's an interesting one. I don't add contacts that often so it wouldn't bug me, but I could see how that could get really freaking annoying.

Oh, and a reset won't solve it. I have never used Backup assistant, and it still won't remember the setting.

It sounds to me, based on Froyo experience and not GB, that you don't have everything set up to sync. You need to have your Gmail account set up as follows:Settings>Accounts>your gmail account> ALL boxes checked (incl. Books - new).

Also check GB Settings >Battery & data manager > Date delivery > checks by Background Data, Data Roaming and Data Enabled. This will allow you to make changes on the X or your PC/Mac with instant sync.

Unable to "link" contacts

I am unable to "link" my contacts with other contacts, such as facebook. Anyone else having this issue or know a solution.
