Gear s plugin - how to remove update notification?

I have a note 8 and a gear s3.
Been having the watch since it came out. Recently, as many of you know, they released version 3.brick for the watch. It was a nightmare getting the watch back on 2.3.2.4, but it is, and it's working great again.
Problem is, I'm getting constant notifications to update the watch, it will not allow me to long press/hide/delete the notification.
Upgrading the watch will never happen. I refuse to give up my custom apps and battery life over some lame looking overlays.
The gear app itself is set to manual for updating, but it still constantly reminds me.
Any help?
