Gear VR and the S7 edge

I just started using my free VR and I get overheating messages after about 20 minutes of use, whether viewing photos or videos.

Is this normal? It seems rather odd to me.

I have used the VR as well and it overheats plenty, although i never got a warning message. I haven't tried it in a while so not sure if the warning is normal

I get a message on my VR that tells me to turn off my phone until it cools down. I'm wondering about the value of the VR if I can only use it in 20 minute intervals.

This may be obvious, but when you put your phone in, leave the cover off. I had the overheating issue with my Note 5 and the Gear VR, but the issue stopped when I took the cover off.
