Gear vr setup process starts by itself

The thing the usb port being damaged with unoffical chargers does't seem right to me. I'm having the same problems as eveyone else, with them starting about a week ago. However I have had my S6 Edge+ for almost a year now and have being using unoffical chargers way before any of these problems began. I'm talking like within a week of owning the phone, due to borrowing other peoples chargers. So I find it hard to belive that all of a sudden I'm having these problems after a year of using unofficial chargers, coinsiding with so many others having the exact same problem.

Hey everyone Note 5 user here - had this issues with 1st note 5 - sent it in and they sent me a "fixed one" - few days later same thing happens - just went to my files and removed some for of oculas file and its not charging. hope that worked.

Has Samsung mentioned what the issue is? I also started experiencing problems when this automatic Samsung gear vr update started piping up on my phone.
I didn't ask for gear vr, ithe just showed up on my phone and has been causing problems ever since.

I get the black scrrent, and I get the vr install request, what really bothers me is the charging problems this app is causing. When my phone is on and connected, it acts like the charger isn't connected correctly. Finding it and losing it instantly, doing this repeating until disconnected. It will only charge correctly if the phone is turned off.

I factory reset my phone which worked for a bit. But as spond as that gear vr install came back, all my problems came back also.

I've deleted or force stopped all its garbage the gear vr brings. Now the only thing I find in the application section is Samsung gear vr service. It has a option to force stop, but has no option to delete. How do I force delete that?

PLEASE READ- I FOUND A FIX: I have a Samsung Note 5 and have had the same issues with the GEAR VR application everyone on here is discussing, from the constant rebooting, black screens, charging issues and constant port detection. It has been driving me crazy the past few weeks!!! Luckily, I read this forum and never did a factory reset. I did download the Package Disabler Application for .99 and that did stop the VR rebooting and black screens but didn’t stop the port detection and charging issues.

I decided to contact Samsung Support today and they provided me with a fix that I think actually has worked. In fact, I’ve turned off my Package Disabler Application and my phone seems to be back to normal.

The steps they provided me with are as follows:
1) Power down your phone
2) Hold the Power, Home button and Volume up button at the same time, this should open up your System Reboot screen
3) Use the volume down button to scroll down to “Wipe Cache” and press the power button to perform this function
4) Once Cache is wiped, use the volume down button and press the “Reboot system” button.
5) Your phone should reboot and problem should be solved.
Note: This worked for me Samsung N920-V, but may not work for your phone. I’d advise contacting Samsung directly to ensure this will work.

Hope this works for you!!

I have the Galaxy Note 5 and have had it for a year, this month. Last week my phone started doing the same thing that yours is doing. I had to buy a wireless charger, which cost $70.00 and when I try to charge from the wireless, it just keeps beeping repeatedly, and say Fast Wireless Charging, then 2 seconds later is says, Wireless charging paused. Sprint told me that the USB port was bad, but I have gotten it to charge with other cords, but it will not stay charging for more that 10 or 15 minutes. Then it stops. Through out the day, my phone thinks it is charging while I am talking on the phone, sending an email, texting, the screen keeps going back to the charging screen, and it isn't even near a charger. The dam Gear VR program keeps trying to install, and I deleted all of it from my phone at least 4 or 5 times. I can't get anything done on my phone anymore because, the screen won't stay in texting, email or what ever software I am in, it is constantly making that beeping noise it makes when you first start to charge it, and even when it says it is fast charging wireless, an hour will pass and I will check it, and it will show it is charging, but it will still be at the same percentage it was when I put on the charger. Can someone please help me stop all this chaos.

I THINK I FOUND THE SOLUTION !!! I have an s6 edge plus and everything started when gear vr tried to start setup by itself , the phone started to have a black screen (with a liitle x sign at the bottom of the screen ) . I tried everything from deleting the app from application manager to downloading package disabler pro, but the problem still remained . It contstantly beeped like the usb dock was connented and disconected.
SO THE SOLUTION I FOUND IS
1. CLEAN THE USB PORT OF YOUR MOBILE
2. WHEN THE SCREEN FACING UP CHECK YOUR MICRO USB PORT OF THE PHONE THERE IS A LITTLE METAL PART THAT IN MY PHONE THAT WAS GOING DOWNWARD .
TRY TO TAKE SOME FLAT TWEEZERS OR A LITTLE KNIFE TO PUSH IT UP A LITTLE BIT (carefully).
I think thats the solution to everything i dont know why it started with the gear vr but its solved like this, maybe the small metal caused some kind of short that interacted with vr and the phone probably thinked you were trying to put a gear vr device and started auto installation !!! All this after 8 hours of searching the internet

Hello. I have a note 4 and today suddenly the gear vr setup process gets triggered. Please see the screenshots. There is also a voice. I do not want to go through the setup as I'm not interested in the gear vr. Sometimes it also ends on a black screen with an "x", but I cannot close it. So I had to take the battery out.
I did not download anything related to gear vr.
Please help.

I had this today. Samsung S7 went to beach, came back and it was doin the black screen thing. Read about the dirty usb port. Thought must be salt residue , Ran it under water and problem solved.

Hi guys, another unfortunate with the same problem in a charging port of a samsung galaxy s6 edge +, thanks for the tip on package disabler, finally the VR pop ups went away, but I have another issue that is driving me crazy, the phone keeps poping up "usb cable connected" , "usb cable disconnected", this not only ruins my battery life (battery that I have been charging with a wireless charger) since the phones keeps waking and turn on the screen several times.

Any idea on how to disable the notification of usb cable connected?

Thanks a lot,

Hugo

You might want to start your own thread in the S6 forums for more exposure on this usb problem.

Read through this thread. Answers have already been posted. Clean your USB port, check for a bent pin and ultimately replace/repair the USB port.

This happens because there is a short between two pins and the phone thinks you plugged a pair of VR goggles into the USB port.

Totally agree its freaking aggrevating. By ever so slightly bending the pin (as instructed in a previous post) I was able to fix this problem on my phone.

Good luck!

Hello guys, you need to go into the galaxy apps application and go into the top right corner in the settings and to turn off the auto updates. It worked for me,hope it could be helpfull.

This gear vr app is ridiculous I couldn't even write on this thread for a while because it kept popping up over and over. Forced stopped it, it came back in minutes sometimes even seconds!! I can't use my food delivery work app, I can't even check my damn email. I hard reset 3 times and lost all my data, gear vr comes right back to greet me. Samsung has no repair kiosk anywhere I can find at all.

There's only one way, download package disabler pro the most expensive one off the play store and disable gear vr. Finally after 5 days or hitting my head I can use my phone again. Samsung my disappointment with you can't be expressed with words, thanks for wasting hours of my time this week with something you could at least attempt to fix.
