Gear VR, Wow!

After Target botched my pre-order I thought I was out of luck. I told the manager at the Sprint store where I ended up getting my phone and he offered to honor Target's pre-order. Picked up the Gear VR a little while ago and have been playing with it. I'm amazed. VR is something I never cared about and now can't imagine not having it. I'm just in awe of this device.

I had low expectations. I bought my son a Google Cardboard headset so I was expecting something like that. It's just unreal.

I love it, too. I couldn't use Google Cardboard. It made me sick very quickly.

Have you tried the Smash Hit game yet? It's very addictive.

I haven't but I've heard it's good. I played a lot of Gunjack, and tried out Dead Secret. That game is creepy.

I tried Herobound Spirt Champion last night. That's my new addiction.

Gunjack looks really good. That one is on my must try list. I haven't read about Dead Secret.

VR is definitely awesome. I don't think its the gimmick people say it is. One day games will be full blown rooms. The gear vr is nice but it has given me an itch for the Oculus.

I have the the Oculus Rift DK1, DK2, and now the CV1 - I can tell you that the progression of the Oculus Rift is amazing, and nothing can touch it.

However, I recently purchased a Galaxy S7 for the sole reason of using it with the Samsung GearVR (I won't be using it as a phone), and let me tell you, the GearVR is by FAR the best mobile solution to the Oculus Rift hardware. The fact that Samsung and Oculus have paired up with the Oculus store makes it even better.

You are not alone there. It's better with games (Gunjack, for example) but any static image mashes it really obvious. Unfortunately, that's the limitation of the hardware right now. I don't think even a 4K display would look particularly high resolution in this environment.

Not really disappointed by it because I wasn't really expecting it to look that amazing in the first place. It's still pretty cool and fun to play with though. Can't imagine what VR will by like in a few years.

Can anyone confirm if the Gear VR works with your phone still in a case? Still waiting for my Gear to ship but would be very disappointed if I had to remove my slip Obliq case to use VR

You will have to remove it from the case to use it with the Gear VR. The port where it plugs into the micro-usb just doesn't have ANY leeway whatsoever, so a naked phone fills that port perfectly. That's just one of the quibbles right now. Well, that and being unable to unlock your phone while it's docked.

No it doesn't. I've got a Spigen case. It's pretty thin, but I have to remove it to use the Gear VR. That annoyed me at first, but now I'm use to it.

Yes. It's on the top of the VR.
