General Build Quality

Hi gang...new to Android and the N1.

I ordered an AT&T compatible N1 on Friday and it was delivered today. As I mentioned in another thread, it worked for about 20 minutes and then I lost my network connection. I rebooted and it seemed fine for about 20 minutes, then stopped again. I restarted and got the SIM not installed error. It's a new SIM, and I put a different SIM in and it didn't work either. I called google and they conferenced in HTC. I'm sending this one back for a refund and ordered a new one (will arrive tomorrow or Wednesday--most likely Wednesday).

I also noticed the battery cover door doesn't fit quite right. Seems like a lot to go wrong with one device. How's everyone else's build quality? I'd heard good things about HTC and a had high hopes. Mine sits in the box waiting to go back.

Bummer of a day.

I'll let you know what I see when mine arrives today (hopefully). Granted, I didn't research this phone as much as I have researched devices in the past. One, my options are limited on AT&T, and two, it was a rather urgent replacement device following my better half's unfortunate rain incident. But I have not seen an overwhelming number of posts saying the hardware was junk. Most of the reviews I saw had praise for the hardware.

The build quality of my N1 is first rate. I ordered on the first day and have been very happy with it - best phone I've ever owned.

There's always a chance of getting a bugged unit (with any product), don't dispair, you will be happy when you get a new one.

I don't understand the battery cover issue - it snaps into place and is either on or not installed correctly. The N1 does not have the same problems the Droid has with its cover - different cover completely.

My N1's build quality is perfect. Better than iPhone.

I'm blaming user error. Betting you horked the battery cover and thereby are getting loose battery, and hence your problems.

Its easy for me to make this claim because you are too far away to throw sometheing at me. ;-)

Overall my N1 is on par with my old iPhone. It's a solid phone that I havn't had any issues with. I have the ATT version.

Mine came in yesterday, and it's been working since. Feels solid, too. Just have to un-iPhone my thinking process to learn this device. Been fun so far.

yay.. I've got my N1 back in fabruary. It's build quality is superb.

I think the build quality is really good. Nothing is loose, no dead pixels, feels nice and very solid in the hand. Getting used to the feel of the glass was strange for me. Not only that but I didn't want to get it messy but that comes with the territory. I'm one of those who keeps it in my pocket when needed, but not all day and it's held up nicely so far. I do keep keys and change in the other pocket however just to make sure.

Over all, I'm very pleased. I've had a few software (I think) issues - received a call and and i couldnt slide to answer or slide to ignore but but could hit the sleep button to mute, one time it was like the proximity sensor thought the phone was still to my head while still on a call. It rebooted for no apparent reason one time also.

It sure beats almost daily battery pulls on my old BB Curve!!

Definitely nowhere near as solid feeling as an iPhone 3GS, but its still very, very good.

The 3Gs is a nice phone, but you are mistaking the iPhone bulk for quality. The removable battery door often makes iphone users think a phone doesn't have the same quality, but this is a feature, and has nothing to do with quality. Most users are totally incapable of judging real quality.

Well, you think wrong. Feeling solid is part of the quality of the device. If someone thinks their phone feels weak and fragile, they're not going to think its quality. If a phone feels like its solidly built, it imparts a sense of quality.

And I'm not mistaking anything. I owned a 3G and 3GS, and both of those blow the Nexus One out of the water when it comes to quality. This applies to materials used, final assembly, and overall quality. (touchscreen, etc.) Going from the iPhone to the Nexus One was a bit of a shock, because the Apple just feels like its in a totally different class, even though it isn't. The Nexus One is not a bad device at all, but its lacking in the litte details that Apple nails with every device.

I left the iPhone 3GS for the N1 and the N1 feels tighter than the iPhone. There was a gap between the glass and bezel that was forever trapping dust, hair and pocket lint. No problems with that yet on the Nexus.

It's glad to hear that you like N1 over iPhone. cool.. enjoy N1 and android.
