Question Gesture navigation in chat apps double back swipe

I'm trying out the gesture navigation. One thing that's really annoying is that in chat apps, when I'm on a chat window with the keyboard open I have to double back swipe to go back. (on the back button navigation this is just a single click)
With the swipes, the first swipe just collapses the keyboard then it goes back to the chat list (this is consistent across all chat apps)

Is there a way to turn this off and skip the keyboard collapsing part? (Android 15, Zenfone 15, gboard for keyboard)
