This article just hit my Google Now page. Wondering if anybody has given it a try. I am thinking I will download at some point. I would love to have the display be a little more active, my only concern is poor programming leading to battery drain.

The article goes through making sure the you have the right settings, and getting the app Ambi-Turner. No root is needed.

Good luck with battery !! I'm always vary on apps like this since they can't hook up into the system like OEMs can do.

Thanks for the tip about Gravity Screen, it may not be as good as Moto Display was (it's short a few IR sensors) but it's pretty close and better than Ambient Display in terms of consistency on my 6p.

X2
Gravity is much more effective.

I'm also enjoying gravity, Works near perfect. Have you tried Ambi Turner? The only thing I'm missing with Gravity is the Breath notification, which it seems the paid version of ambi Turner has. Also, it seems that with phone face up on my passenger seat the jostling wanted up the screen.

I installed yesterday and was not happy with AmbiTuner. They updated the app, and it is more effective. Still not as sensitive as I would like to the phone being picked up.

AmbiTuner does have the breath option in the pay area. I like the breath, so I may spring for it the next update or two helps.

I see 3 Gravity Screen apps. Which dev makes the one you guys like? Thanks.

I'm using the one by Plexnor called Gravity Screen. It works perfect for me. It doesn't have the always-on notification, but the notification screen does come on as soon as you pick up your phone

I paid for the pro version since I have a whole bunch of Google credit from the surveys. But I don't remember what features it added

Thanks for the info! I'm going to dl it right now. 👍

I'm personally digging Ambi Tuner. Bought the pro version and it works as advertised and no drain on the battery.

You can also wave your hand over the screen.. Only issue I have is that I put my phone down to view it and the screen goes off because I have that setting enabled... I'm having to turn gravity on and off...

I set my screen lock to immediately (was set to 10 minutes), and now I am having a lot more luck with Ambi-Turner. Going to test for another day or so, but I am now leaning toward buying.

I have my phone unlocked, is it works best with gravity that way. With Ambi Turner, if I lock my phone will I then have to unlock it to see the notifications?

Rejoice! Droid active display features on your Pixel (XL)

Hey all,

Coming over from a droid turbo to the Pixel XL I immediately missed the active display for notifications. There are a few apps that do this but fall a bit short. Good news! I found a new app that actually works pretty well. You get tilt to wake for free and you can get the hand wave to wake for $.99 (I bought with google rewards credit so this was a no brainer).

My Pixel XL is now the perfect phone for me at this point and I'm very pleased.
