Get unlimited data on ungrandfathered lines!

I tried it and it worked on my friend who has a tb. i had to be persistant about it, but got it in the first call.

my other friend wants to do it on his iPhone, can i let him borrow my tb, switch the iphone to the tb, then add unlimited mhs, then take off mhs and go back to his iPhone and still retain the unlimited data?

Would it be possible to create a new line on verizon just for the data plan?

Like say I want to get a 4g capable phone without the voice plan and messaging
plan and only go for the data plan. Or is this scheme just entirely impossible and
I have to get the data plan along with the voice plan.

Verizon does not offer anything like this anymore. Once upon a time they had it for blackberries for like $50/month but that plans been gone for couple years now.

Thanks for the response. I was kind of dreading that verizon would not be able to offer the data plan on its own. I wonder if customer service has to power to remove the voice plan and leave only the data plan.

It doesn't work that way. The data is a plan add-on, not a plan itself and does not exist separately. Trust me if this were available I would be all over it as I have several devices which I only use for data. I used to do it when I had two blackberries (a storm and a regular one) but had to drop that when I moved to android since it didn't exist for standard smartphones. Now it does not exist anymore at all.

Can anyone confirm that this still works? I tried 2 times so far and both reps said the mobile hotspot feature was limited to 2GB.

I'd say try again but verizon may have just caught up. Someone posted this little tid bit on one of those deal sites and many have flocked to it since yesterday. It seems like the CSR have caught up because so many are now asking about it.

Some of them have posted just this morning that it worked for them. Try again, ask for the operator and just say you want to add the 4g mobile hotspot. Confirm it's only an extra $30 and cancel the option when you feel comfortable to do so.

Nope, 4G 2GB Mobile Hot Spot switches to unlimited when added to existing data plan with 4G phone. People are still doing it. Sidenote: A few people with 3G devices have had it switched back to regular plan.

Just called got unlimited on my 3G Droid 3. Switched about 3 months ago from Sprint to my parents' plan and missed the unlimited data. The catch for 3G phones is that you can't get unlimited mobile hotspot. I got the 2gb hotspot and it converted my data from 2gb to unlimited with 2gb of mobile hotspot for an extra $20. I'm a little hesitant to go and cancel the hotspot just yet. But it was super easy to get this done. I called only once. I called 1-800-922-0204. I went into option 4 and stated that I wanted to "add feature" to my phone. Just make sure the CSR adds the hotspot as a feature and doesn't change your data bundle.

Made an account just to post that I confirmed this today, added 30$ unlimited mobile hot spot and got unlimited data too.

Just removed mobile hot spot and I still have unlimited data.

Jackpot.

ok how about 4G xoom tablets?

Not gonna happen, there hasnt been an unlimited mobile broadband plan in like 3 years.

Some people have swapped the SIM cards for their 4G smartphones into Xooms and used the data plan but it is only a matter of time before that is detected in a IMEI check and they change the plan on the SIM card to a mobile broadband plan and poof there goes unlimited data.

i kinda figured that. oh well. anyways it made me look into that on my tab with the my verizon app. pulled it up and looked at my tabs phone #, on the bottom is data plan. pressed that to look at my data plan options. checked was unlimited email and web $29.99. i clicked on that option and the only choice it gave me was to cancel or remove option. so that is telling me i have the unlimited data. there was another choice to upgrade to 4gb for the $30, press that and it gives me the option to accept. hmmmmm????
i call verizon for the heck of it to see whats up and she looks and looks and looks she says i have the 2gb but NOT paying for it. she was even clueless, no surprise that there. so right now i am leaving it, i would rather NOT pay for 2gb than pay for unlimited (which i know is not an option)

Does anyone still know if this works. Was strongly considering leaving sprint because of the spotty and unreliable data speeds but I didnt want to lose unlimited. Would switch to vzw if I could still scam some unlimited lte goodness. Can anyone let me know if its worth a try and if so what would be the best approach

omg! i just added MHS and then removed it. still says unlimited data. gonna be conservative with my data fo rnow though, just to be on the safe side. don't want this glitch to end up costing me hundreds of dollars.

For those of you who got this, what did you ask for? I asked for the $30 MHS feature to be added and what they did was convert my $30 4GB data plan to a $50 data plan that included 6GB of data and a MHS.:(

Just called again and this time I was outright told that you can't have the $30 MHS option unless you have the unlimited data plan already.
