Getting a g3 next week

UK G3 here. Had it for about 2 weeks. Handset can get hot from prolonged use. I did have battery issues this weekend but i reset the device and uninstalled suspect apps, seems back to normal now.

I have had 4hrs 25mins SOT but that was including watching a movie. When using apps its 3 hrs give or take.

I do get lag when launching Google search, thats not immediate for me. I do get the odd home screen re-draw too.

Overall i am happy, I had to choose from last years flagships as i was priced out of the new ones. On Three I got the device free and my contract cost reduced.

Do you have lollipop

1.Should i update it to lollipop when i first get it? Are there any problems in lollipop?

2. How good is the battery? Please state screen on time

I can get 6 hours SOT if I run a clean setup. You should be able to get 5 on a stock setup that is set up properly.

3. Is there any lag?

Stock can have minor lag but I would recommend clearing our and disabling useless apps.

4. Are there overheating issues

I have not had any to date, and I sometimes push my G3 very hard.

5. How long have you had the g3 and are you happy with it?

I have had my G3 for 9 months and I'm very happy with it. I see no other significant upgrades currently. It's an amazing phone in one of the best packages (dimensions and screen-to-body ratio, 74%) to date.

I've had a g3 for a couple days now and it is a pretty good phone. I can't really speak to overall battery life when only having it a couple days but one area I am very impressed with is stand by battery life. I'll charge my phone to 100% before going to bed. With it off the charger, it will still be at 100% when I wake up.

My biggest disappointment is the camera. It is slow at actually taking the photo and the quality is not that great.

I am running an AOSP 5.02 ROM currently. It is the best experience I've had with this phone. Was originally on stock Verizon KitKat, then flashed a custom KitKat ROM, then went to this AOSP 5.02 ROM (Dirty Unicorns), then tried out another Lollipop stock ROM (SkyDragon) but didn't like the bloated stock feel of it so I went back to Dirty Unicorns.

Hi. What is your screen brightness? Mine is set on 80% using Lollipop 5.0 and I'm getting about 3 hours SOT.

I don't know if you can, but try running your brightness under 50%. You will get better battery life.

How do you get 6 hours SOT. I'm barely getting 3 and I have most things off.

I haven't noticed many issues being reported except those with Verizon, so you're probably fine. Just update right away if it doesn't come with Lollipop on it since your phone will be clean. Your other option (unless you plan to root & know what you're doing) is waiting until you've done a lot with your phone, but then you'll want to backup your data & do a hard reset after the install. Your call.

I'm sure there are tons of people happy with Lollipop, you just tend to hear more from unhappy people than the happy ones. And yes, there are some people with problems, but they seem to mainly be 1) some - not all, Verizon users, 2) people who have problems with a particular app not playing nice & they haven't figured that out yet, or 3) people who refuse to do a factory reset on their phone to even identify whether or not that will fix it.

Who knows, maybe your phone will come with Lollipop already on it & you've been worrying all this time over nothing ;)

Why a hard reset?

Why a hard reset?

Because it's generally recommended you do a factory reset after a major update, which Lollipop is. This helps clean out the cobwebs you might get after using the phone for a while, adding/removing a bunch of apps, etc. If you upgrade before you install a bunch of things on your phone, you might not need to do this.

If you look at the reports of people having issues with their phones, many of them don't want to do a factory reset because of the amount of effort it takes to back up your data first & then restore it & re-configure things the way they like it. Several people have reported that after finally doing a factory reset, their problems were resolved.

When I got my G3 (again, I'm in the US, on Sprint) - I had my phone for only about a week before I got the upgrade notification. I had no problems with my upgrade, but I'm sure that was largely because my phone was still pretty clean.

I manage brightness with Lux, I control wakelocks and other running programs with Greenify. I also have the added bonus of using a custom kernel with a custom ROM that is tweaked for performance + battery life.

Is yours a US variant? I think phones on us carriers have worse battery than international models....

My phone is a VS985 on Verizon Wireless.

Screen brightness is set to automatic, as I'm using my phone in different situations throughout the day.
Anyhow, I suppose that with 80% brightnes 3 hour SOT is realistic.
