Getting a popup which says com.android.chrome is causing performance issues, any idea whats up?

Hi, I have a Samsung S6 running Android 7.0 on Sprint. I've been recently getting a popup which says "Close apps causing performance issues? com.android.chrome is causing performance issues which could drain your battery or cause other apps to run slowly" and asking me if I want to close the app. Sorry but I have a few questions. Any idea what com.android.chrome is? Any idea what is going on? Any idea why this would just crop up now?

Is that a notification in the notification panel, or is it a "toast" popup notification? If it's in the panel, long-press it and tap App Info to see if it's the system that's giving you the notification, or something else.

com.android.chrome likely represents the system component of the preinstalled Chrome browser for your phone.
