Verizon is shipping out a replacement Droid X for me, the screen on mine finally quit responding altogether.

I know the X doesn't have a SIM card, just an SD card. So aside from moving the SD card over, how do I go about activating the new phone with my phone number, and move my contacts over?

You can bring it to a store or call customer service. If you have an online account you can also do it that way. If you swap devices using the online service you will then have to call *228 then select option 1. From there put in your gmail information and your contacts will automatically sync back up. Any apps you had will need to downloaded again from the market.

That's all there is to it.

did you ever use the verizon backup... if you want to check go to your verizon account and look for contacts, its possible you backed it up without realizing it.

also you can probably still mount the phone using usb regardless of screen correct?

If you download appbrain on the current phone (assuming it is alive), you can sync your apps and then resync on new phone.

As long as you're using a gmail account for contacts/email/calendar, there's nothing to back up. When you sign in to your gmail account on the new phone, all your stuff will download to it. All your paid apps will download and many of your unpaid apps will show up as well. I look at it this way, if a free app doesn't show up on my phone, and I don't remember having it, I didn't need it anyway.

If you running a UI like LauncherPro, you can make backups from inside the app that will restore how your home screens are set up. Same goes for most of the browsers and there respective bookmarks that you have made. All this stuff is stored by the app on your sd card.

also you can use mybackup pro and save your sms/mms, etc to your sd card. it also saves your apps and stuff. then just download the program to your new phone and restore everything from the sd card. it costs $5 but it's worth every penny.
