I think I am going to get rid of Verizon wireless, but I still have about a year and a half on my contract. Is there a way someone could take it over and I could still keep my number? I figure someone could take it off my hands since I have unlimited data. Can you do this or not, kinda curious?

Thanks in advance! :-)

Call verizon and ask. I hear conflicting reports about it. I know you can transfer the contract, but not sure about keeping the number

I've heard that you can transfer your contract and keep your number. But as previously said, its best to call Verizon and hear it from the horses mouth. I'd feel pretty confident that you can transfer and keep the number.

Alright thanks for the replies I'll be sure to give Verizon a call.

I just gave Verizon a call and it looks like someone could take over the contract and I could still keep my number if I went to another carrier.

But will that person be able to keep your unlimited data? I know they transferred that in the past, just wondering if their new system will still allow the transfer.

Yes the person could keep my data, sorry I forgot to include that.

Well I looked at a T-Mobile coverage chart of my area and it looks like I have excellent coverage all around me so I was thinking about getting the GSM Galaxy Nexus and popping in T-Mobile's $30 prepaid card with unlimited data and messaging with 100 minutes, but I haven't decided yet decided.

Thoughts?

I was with at&t but I was tired of getting throttled after 2gb of data where as T-Mobile will do it after 5gb,and that's about how much I use in a month.

I also don't have 4g in my area with at&t, which is not a huge concern.

When I went to ATT years ago i handed over my tmo plan to a friend and she kept all my settings BUT i did have to change my number. i would call verizon again and ask just to make sure before you do something you can't undo.

i went back to tmo from verizon last week and got unlimited talk, text, and 2 GB data for around $85/month.

Yeah, I don't want to get screwed and end up not liking the T-Mobile service and then not being able to switch back, I might just try suspending my Verizon service for a month and testing out some cheap prepaid phone for the time.

Probably the best idea.
