Getting Root and Copy of Stock

Done.

You will need to change the authorship/ownership of the second post in the new thread to be DroidXCon; the auto method is his alone (to post and edit), and he should get rightful attribution.

We cant do that, but no worrys bro ....and as far as super manager its free so i dont think its a problem not like we are pirating it

Glad you got it taken care of.

Agreed it's free, but please make sure the author is properly attributed/referenced if you use it in your script. After all, even if s/he provides it for free, s/he still owns the copyright therein (and might get pissed if proper attribution is not given).

It was a pleasure working with you to get this done.

got what taken care of..

Sorry. I thought that you had figured out a way to take ownership of that post. If you want, add a post to that thread (assuming no one else has), and I will delete my "reserved" and "auto" posts (if I can), leaving you as the second post.

can you try supermanager and see if it works?
And if it works from data/apps ill just instruct people to download it after the fact

For me to redo the whole thing, I would have to put my phone back to stock (how do I do that, other than manually move back all the apps that I moved out of /system/app, and then delete all the changes I have made?). Granted, there is little to no risk if it does not work (i.e., I can always re-root going back to manual process and RootExplorer), but I don't have the 3-4 hours this weekend that it will take me (yes, I am slow) to do it again from scratch (what I have done has already taken up a big chunk of my Saturday, and I have other things that need to get done on this Easter weekend).

Best solution would be for someone who has not yet rooted their phone to try it with supermanager, and then if it does not work have root explorer in the wings, as that way much less time is wasted.

Happy Easter all!

so here is what what i did.. and it worked.. a little easier. i tried doing your method im not that savvy at this!! i couldn't figure out the command thing to save my life.. i don't know if it was me or the computer that wasn't getting it right( running a windows bootcamp on a mac) anyway moving on.. i followed every step up to the commands. after that i went back to the phone installed superused and room manager and root explorer(paid).. after that went back to superoneclick 1.7 click on rageagainstthecage and root.. and it rooted.. followed through the promps and check the root and everything.. after that i restarted my phone.. came back fine went back to superoneclick and click enable apps thing.. bang.. its working good. also the other thing i did is i mad sure and got drive for my lg phone that were avaliable around .. just google it. the only thing with my away is there is no back up of the phone original skd and its not garantee of anything as far as i know my phone could be brick tomorrow.. so make your own judgement. i would've like to back up my phone... but lol. next is figuring out how to get rid of att crapware. thanks and good night... peace im tired. its been a long night.

so it permanently root just using superoneclick is what you are saying

After having the phone off for the night turn back on. The market apps still limited.. Like I can't see apps like PDA net. But the phone seems rooted when I go to root explorer it allows me to see data.. Before it use to say ur phone needs to be rooted.. Three bad things about this is I didn't back up my original sdk.. And it doesn't allow me to get apps not authorize unless I unluck from the computer again.. And last I still having trouble delete Att apps. I'm sorry if this is confusing I'm new to this.

update: here what i found out!! sorry to be bothering you guys!

Got the drives from lg by googleling around.. i got two versions
LGUnitedMobileDriver_S498MA22_WHQL_ML_Ver_2.2(Driver_USB)(google it)
LGUnitedMobileDriver_S4981MAN32AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.2(google it)
after that got superoneclick v1.7 (google it)
when installing superoneclick be aware your computer might think its a virus specially if running windows 7. mine did i had to manually accept rageagainstthecage.

After i got superuser from market free and rootexplorer(paid) a
open superoneclick 1.7 click on rageagainstthecage on the side and ran as a root (not shell root) (shell root is temp after you restart your phone it goes back being unroot)

i did all non market apps it worked for a bit until i left my phone off for the night now it doesn't seem to be working even after running the one or twice on the computer... no big deal.. at least for me because side loading is enable install the apps on the sd card and open the sd card download folder using rootexplorer..

here is my thought on this:: take it at your own risk.. im extremely new at this its my first android ever.. as far as i know i could have brick my phone. idk. :-X
don't know how rooted is it... because i still can't uninstall att apps.. and get the market to see every app.

Goals: get a custom rom on this phone gingerbread and have some good apps that i couldn't get with my iphone.. being able to get att apps out of this phone.. and lastly being able to see every app on the store.

if anyone have any idea how to get this things done let me know.. thanks
lets keep on working Thrive/ Phenix Fans:D

I'm confused...you can sideload, right?

If you use root explorer, you can uninstall and delete AT&T apps. Just be careful what you delete, don't do it if you don't know what it is.

I don't think there's a way to see Pdanet on the market. I'm on Cyanogenmod, as far out from AT&T control as you can get, and I still can't see it. I've heard you can play around with pulling your SIM out and it might work, but I haven't tried it.

The other Optimus phone's have gotten CM7 ports, so hopefully someone with some dev experience will pick this one up and port it over.

it sounds like you only temporary rooted, thats why i wrote up that script to use right after superoneclick.

you can use root explorer without root you just can not change any system files, lets see if you are rooted or not
Download any free Terminal Emulator from the market. Here is the one i use
Android Market= Android Terminal Emulator
AppBrain= Android Terminal Emulator
terminalemulator.png

from the prompt($) type

$su

superuser app may ask to allow permission,
hit allow.
this will change $ to #
If you do not see #
then you are not rooted

I see #. so then I rooted. By the way tried going to the root explorer and deleting the app and it wouldnt work but I got this awesome app it titanium backup and I was able to delete apps and back them up.. Here what I notice if I'm on 3G connect no wifi I'm unable to download apps like pdanet.. On wifi on Airplane mode they show up... So I think them my way of rooting the phone is so far the easies.. Custom roms is next..

Yeah I can side load apps.. See I had amazon AppStore download on my sd card but I couldn't install until I did what I told you. After that I was able to do side loading even download stuff from the web and get it install.

I was unable to do that using root explorer but I got titanium backup and I got to see all the apps hit uninstall and I'm good.

Now about custom rom: I did check Cyanogenmod they don't support the lg thrive yet.. Hopefully in the future.. My main thing is I need this phone to be stable... After the custom rom. Will see if anybody comes up with anything soon.

I'm having issue with one thing is it seems like apps just run on the background on their own.. It making my phone dies quickly does anybody know a solution for this? I don't want to freeze them using titanium backup...

Another question is can I uninstall drm services 1.0.0 and com.leg.hiddenmenu 2.2.1?

@dinlaca can you get me a system dump please

Sorry for not responding; been away.

Happy to do so. What tool do you recommend for a system dump (I have never done one before)? I have the stock image of /system that I got while doing a cat of mtd1 (weird place for /system, but that is where ATT put it), if that will do (shoot me an email addy via PM, and I can email it to you).

Also, please note that currently, my system has been significantly slimmed down, so if the above .img file won't work, I will have to provide you two files:
1. A dump of my current system (via whatever tool you recommend), and
2. A folder containing all of the .apks (all ~70MB of them) that I removed from /system (including that obnoxious ATT App Manager that I believe is the root cause of the root problems that at least one other person is having).

Just let me know.

im guessing you didnt try that script

system dump :
adb pull system /system

Nope. But I had told you I wouldn't (since I have my phone set up now). :)

system dump :
adb pull system /system

Thanks for this info. I just tried it on my mac, but I need to update my Android compatibility stuff (i.e., my mac does not recognize my USB-connected Thrive when I type "adb devices"). That, or do it via Windows. I won't be able to get to either of those until this evening.

Please PM me an email address where I can send you the /system files (together with the APKs I pulled from /system); not posting that here (due to fact that ATT might take a proprietary attitude toward this Android system - see response from CS I got re: request for LG Thrive source, found in other thread). Thanks.
